Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking two individuals for a full-time continuing opportunity as Supervisor, Security Services with our Security department.


Reporting to the Director, Security and Dispatch Services, this position is a uniformed, operational position that must display a high degree of professionalism.

The Supervisor, Security Services will be responsible for coaching and guidance in the essential leadership and supervision to the security and dispatch operations.

They will be responsible for all aspects of routine and emergency security response, including reporting, investigations, internal and external relationships.

This position is accountable for ensuring staff operate in accordance with applicable legislation, policy and procedures.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Actively participating in the recruitment process for Peace Officers, Security Agents, and Dispatchers.
  • Overseeing and supervising Peace Officers, Security Agents, Dispatchers and Guards to ensure the safety and security of all staff, faculty, students, and visitors on MacEwan property.
  • Ensuring the Director is immediately made aware of incidents or occurrences to enable them to support, provide direction and advise the MacEwan Executive of items of concern.
  • Ensuring all University policies, procedures, and Security Services work instructions are followed by the security staff.
  • Ensuring all incidents are recorded in the Security Services records management software.
  • Being responsible for ensuring security staff, at all times, demonstrate professionalism in their duties and demeanor, their activities and fulfilling operational needs and expectations.
  • Obtaining a statement from the complaint that captures the nature and detail of the incident.
  • Providing day to day service to the University in responding to building alarms and safety drills.
  • Acting as the Incident Commander and initially assuming the responsibility to liaise with the responding Fire personnel at the building fire panel that is in alarm.
  • Participating in all emergency planning simulations and training.

SKILLS

  • Experiential knowledge of the postsecondary environment.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal legislation with experience of providing testimony in court.
  • Experiential knowledge of complex investigations and current best practice.
  • Experiential knowledge of preventative techniques in dealing with human behavior within a community setting.
  • Experiential knowledge of providing security at major events, preferably in leadership/coordination role.
  • Experiential knowledge delivering services in an emergency/crisis environment.
  • Experiential knowledge of the services provided by all emergency/social agencies (e.g., Fire, EMS, Police, Social Service, Nonprofit groups, or equivalent).
  • Experiential knowledge of privacy and human rights legislation, diversity and multicultural environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a postsecondary Diploma in law enforcement, security, law, or related field.
  • A minimum of ten years' experience within a recognized enforcement agency with demonstrated success in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in the judicial system, starttoend investigations and prosecutions and have a thorough knowledge of current investigative processes, record management and information secur
