As the Lead Custodial Worker, you will provide lead hand supervision and participate in the cleaning and care of a number of designated buildings and civic occupied premises.

In this role, you are a leader that will engage and motivate custodial staff while organizing and tracking the supplies and work to be completed.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Assign and supervise the work performed by in-house custodial staff
  • Direct employees engaged in routine cleaning and minor related housekeeping work
  • Instruct staff in the proper use of supplies and equipment
  • Keep records of time and materials and review schedules as necessary
  • Prepare and provide employee evaluations
  • Conduct safety meetings and ensuring all staff comply with the provisions contained in the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Provide input into overall planning/scheduling by providing estimates of labour, time, materials and other resource requirements
  • Investigate and resolve problems concerning services, staff, or other related issues
  • Perform specialized cleaning tasks and related duties as required

Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion or enrollment in the Building Service Worker program from a recognized post-secondary institution

  • 3 years experience in custodial work including demonstrated supervisory ability
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and related work experience may be considered
  • Completion of leadership training courses is an asset Completion of Emergency First Aid certificate
  • Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment employed in the custodial care and maintenance of buildings
  • Able to understand, communicate, read and write English at a level needed to meet jobrelated tasks and safety requirements
  • Knowledge of required occupational hazards and safety precautions related to custodial functions
  • Ability to use a variety of cleaning machines and equipment
  • Effective skills in conflict resolution and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships and deal with representatives from various civic departments
  • Physical strength and agility to perform required work
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts
  • Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License and eligibility to obtain a City driver's permit is required
