Duties
: Accountability #1: Continuous Quality Improvement Oversees and leads the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement projects across the organization. Evaluates and monitors quality improvement initiatives to ensure that they remain on track and desired results are achieved and makes adjustments as required. Participates as a member of the Quality Committee of the Board and reports on quality improvement initiatives. Provides leadership and guidance and coordination for Accreditation activities and is a key liaison with Accreditation Canada. Ensures cross-functional accountabilities are clearly communicated and understood to ensure the success of continuous quality improvement initiatives and programs. Accountability #2: Patient Safety Leads and develops patient safety initiatives and programs that ensure patients are cared for in a safe and healthy environment. Coordinates programs that focus on the identification, analysis and implementation of initiatives that improve healthcare systems while reducing human error within the system. Ensures that the development of program goals and objectives are in line with corporate goals and the hospital's strategic plan. Is responsible for leading and monitoring patient safety change initiatives as required. Ensures all services are compliant with relevant and appropriate legislation. Accountability #3 Infection Prevention and Control Leads the organization's infection control program Working with the IPAC coordinators, ensures compliance with key IPAC standards and regulations such as the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) guidelines Ensures audits, policies and practices are aligned with current standards and knowledge Works with Ottawa Public Health and other bodies in ensuring preparation for, surveillance, and reporting of identified communicable diseases. Accountability #4 Cross-functional Accountabilitie s Works in collaboration with key stakeholders and partners to develop patient safety and quality initiatives and programs that are designed to support patient care services and improve the quality and safety of patient care. Works in partnership with Patient Relations by supporting the review of patient concerns brought to the attention of the organization and making recommendations for improvements based on findings. Supports the facilitator/coordinator for Accreditation to ensure that the Accreditation process is integrated with quality improvement initiatives. Provides collaborative support in the development and improvement of established systems and processes designed to manage and reduce the spread of hospital infections and communicable disease. Provides leadership to clinical risk management such as serious incident reviews and coroner investigation/inquests. Contributes to clinical standards that improve quality of care in a fiscally responsible manner. Supports the work of Ethics at the Royal. Accountability #5: Human Resources Is Accountable for the effective and efficient utilization of human resources within the portfolio by managing, coaching and mentoring staff, promoting and fostering a safe and healthy work environment, conducting performance reviews and providing constructive feedback. Ensures direct reports complete all mandatory training and adhere to hospital policies and practices. Works in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal. Ensures a work environment that is conducive to the Royal's Harassment-free Policy. Qualifications: Master's degree in a related profession (. MHA, MBA or Nursing). Registered with a Nursing or healthcare discipline professional body is preferred. Clinical experience with advanced training and experience related to quality and safety is preferred Certification related to quality and patient safety is considered an asset. Minimum of five years' experience in quality and safety preferred. Knowledge of patient safety initiatives in health care generally & in particular mental health. Knowledge of the Professional Standards of the Regulated Health Professions Act of Ontario, Public Hospital's Act and Regulated Health Disciplines Act. Knowledge of principles of infection prevention and control in healthcare Knowledge of hospital budgeting techniques In depth knowledge of the structure and operations of a complex hospital providing care, research and teaching programs Leadership, interpersonal, facilitation, team building, coaching and communication skills Demonstrated ability to approach issues and challenges in an innovative and creative manner. Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills required to prioritize work of self and others to meet unpredictable/short deadlines. Ability to critically appraise practice related to safety and quality improvement Ability to determine feasibility of potential research, educational or clinical initiatives. Proven ability in working effectively with all members of health care team (. clinical managers, physicians, health professionals and Experience leading project implementation Ensures compliance with all regulations and government requirements English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing.Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset. Salary Range: 67.50 to 80.61 per hour-
