How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Education Interpreter delivers hands-on environmental, cultural heritage, nature, recreation, and renewable energy programs (dependent on location) to visitors and visitor groups of TRCA/partner sites and facilities, as well potentially at client sites.

The Education Interpreter plays an active role in customer experience ensuring all visitors have a positive experience.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Guides and leads visitors and visitor groups to TRCA's sites and facilities on established programs focused on environmental, cultural heritage, nature, recreation, and renewable energy (dependent on location).
  • The Education Interpreter supports the implementation of all Livestock educational programs at Black Creek Pioneer Village (BCPV).

Key responsibilities of the role include:

the delivery of family-focused Livestock educational programs, welcoming, interacting with, and creating a positive experience for BCPV's summer visitors, and the provision of basic care for BCPV's livestock collection.

Health and safety are a core responsibility of the position.

  • Learns program content to be able to effectively deliver interactive programs to various audiences.
  • Ensures program equipment/supplies including artifacts are well maintained, clean and stored appropriately.
  • Provides support in program development and administrative tasks as required.
  • Educates BCPV's summer visitors by facilitating visitor/animal interaction in a livestockfocused activity area that uses heritage breed animals to illustrate the story of the Toronto region,
  • Delivers Livestock interactive programs for members of the public.
  • Engages with all visitors, altering presentation approach to age and interests of audience.
  • Follows all safety procedures and guidelines for working with tools, near animals, etc. as outlined in TRCA Safety Procedures.
  • Supports daily animal care regimes and assists with animal behaviour management.
  • Health and safety are a core responsibility of the position.
  • Welcomes and greets visitors to BCPV during its busy summer season, engaging with them in a friendly and inviting manner.

What will you need to succeed:

  • Actively pursuing or possess a post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field, preferably Agriculture or Equine Studies.
  • Ability to deliver programs/information to audiences of various ages, adapting style to ensure audience appropriateness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy.
  • Experience interacting and connecting with persons of various social, cultural, or economic backgrounds; at ease with a variety of audiences.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both nonemergency and emergency situations.
  • Able to selfmanage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Demonstrates responsiveness to internal and external customer requests and needs.
  • Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines.
  • Must be flexible to work all required shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrates basiclevel knowledge of heritage breed livestock animals and their typical care regimens.
  • Knowledge of livestock, and ability to work handson alongside livestock animals.
