The Nurse Clinician ensures the delivery of nursing practice activities such as patient assessment, nursing staff and patient/family education, and health promotion activities for children and adolescents with neurological disorders and is responsible for assigning direct care responsibilities to other staff in accordance with established policies, standards, procedures and philosophy at British Columbia Children's Hospital and CRNBC. The Nurse Clinician is the key health care professional in advocating for and maintaining optimal physical and psychosocial health of this patient population with accountability for development, monitoring, and effectiveness of patient services provided.

What you'll do

Oversee the delivery of care for the neurology patient population by coordinating patient care delivery, ensuring provision of direct patient care for patients, making adjustments in patient assignments/schedules with accountability for follow-up and patient outcomes. Initiate and coordinate assessment and post assessment referrals; respond to patient, family, and health care member's enquiries; and liaise with other support and diagnostic health services in coordinating patient referrals. Collaborate with nursing staff, medical staff, health care disciplines, and community agencies to plan patient care in the clinic and community setting. Promote and implement teaching for patients, families, and other care team members regarding the various neurological disorders, complications, and modes of management as well as health maintenance and health promotion. Act as clinical nursing resource in identifying and providing education for patients, families, nursing staff, health care professionals, community agencies/services, and schools, providing information based on specialized theory and practice.

What you bring

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) to five (5) years recent related clinical nursing experience including ambulatory care experience and/or community health care experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. CPR – basic level 1

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Relate effectively to children and their families. Make decisions in an independent manner in a clinical setting. Effectively teach. Effectively problem solve with integration of information from a variety of nursing, medical and multidisciplinary team members in the clinic and in the community. Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system. Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
