Department, Unit or Project Description:

The Faculty of Social Sciences consists of 13 academic Departments/Schools/Programs, specialized research units and three support units, has an annual operating budget of approximately $37 million, and employs about 130 faculty, more than 60 staff (both operating
- and research-funded) and over 220 full-time equivalent graduate teaching assistants, as well as both research and teaching postdoctoral fellows and sessional lecturers. Approximately 3,800 full-time equivalent undergraduate students and 300 graduate students are registered in the Faculty's programs. The current value of grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), held by researchers in the Faculty, exceeds $5 million annually.

Job Summary:

Plan, develop, implement and evaluate various marketing and communication events, activities and initiatives.

Accountabilities:

  • Execute marketing and communication initiatives working within a specified budget.
  • Write and disseminate announcements and promotional information through various communication methods.
  • Establish marketing and communication best practices and recommendations for improvement.
  • Plan and execute logistics for conferences, events or exhibits.
  • Provide recommendations on the suitability of space, venues, and set up for conferences, events or exhibits.
  • Develop and distribute evaluation surveys post-conference, event or exhibit. Collect and review feedback to assess and improve future events and activities.
  • Monitor and reconcile event costs and verifies accuracy of all expenses incurred.
  • Receive and respond to issues that arise during events.
  • Liaise with facility services and suppliers of contracted services to ensure that all services agreed to have been provided.
  • Coordinate the use of facilities and meeting space within the department.

Typical office environment.
Travel to offsite event locations may be required.
Work is completed under general direction and guidance
