We are currently recruiting a Controller for a one year-term position.

***The Controller oversees all financial transactions for the Frontiers North (FN) group of companies, with a focus on achieving long-term economic, social, and environmental goals. This role also involves performing a variety of transactional accounting functions and collaborating with department leads to review budgets and ensure accurate recording of revenues and costs, identifying business risks and proposing corrective actions, acting as the finance liaison for shareholders and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance, and providing leadership to the finance team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all organizational financial transactions to maximize the FN group of companies' longterm economic, social, and environmental goals.
  • Perform accounting transactions including, but not limited to, entering and reconciling journal and general ledger entries, resolving discrepancies, posting invoices, and completing bank reconciliations,
  • Work with department leads to review operating budgets, ensure revenues and costs are recorded accurately, and confirm actuals against budgeted amounts.
  • Review business risks and opportunities and their impact on profit by assessing the company's financial strengths and weaknesses and proposing corrective actions.
  • Act as the financial liaison and build solid working relationships with FN's shareholders, legal counsel, insurance providers, tax consultants and authorities, auditors, and lenders to effectively control the assets of the business.
  • Ensure FN's compliance with tax remittances, audit standards, and software licencing.
  • Provide leadership to the accounting and finance team and actively manage the team to accomplish their goals.
  • Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of direct reports, providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Postsecondary education from an accredited institution in accounting, finance, and/or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or other relevant professional certification.
  • 5+ years' experience in accounting and finance.
  • Previous experience working with accounting software is required.
  • Indepth knowledge of corporate finance, accounting principles, budgeting, financing, financial analysis, auditing and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of business law, taxation and corporate social responsibility.
  • Ability to organize and maintain complex activities and multifaceted projects and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to develop mutually beneficial lasting relationships with external stakeholders, shareholders, direct reports, and coworkers.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; other languages are an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer, including Mac operating systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Internet, and server databases.
  • Must be able to work individually and as part of a team.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Office environment; long periods of sitting, using a computer and mouse, and viewing information on a computer monitor.
  • The ability to travel to Churchill, Manitoba and other locations by air, vehicle, and/or train is required.
  • Overtime is required during evenings, weekends, and on holidays, especially during peak seasons.
