About Our Opportunity

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide general information concerning public housing to applicants, potential applicants, general public and third parties as appropriate.
  • Identify and refer applicants who may be eligible for priority selection for housing.
  • Provide, where practical, information to applicants regarding suitable alternate housing programs.
  • Conduct home visits where appropriate for the purpose of confirming eligibility, reviewing suitability, and determining housing requirements.
  • Prepare necessary followup letters and reports after completing home visits in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Respond to correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain uptodate applicant files, and applicant status, including maintaining timely record of applicant contracts.
  • Select applicants for available units on a timely basis in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Managing transfers on the waitlist.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Successful completion of a diploma program in a related field, plus four years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Sound analytical skills, judgement and discretion are required to respond to inquiries, to prioritize work to meet month end, yearend and other transaction/reporting deadlines.
  • Strong keyboarding skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with intermediate to excellent skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent knowledge of office procedures and practices are required to maintain accurate and secure files, track and followup information/report requests and manage petty cash.
  • Strong organizational and timemanagement skills to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of Housing Authority policies, procedures and practices is required to respond accurately to inquiries from internal or external sources, applicants and tenants.
  • Client service oriented with communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal with coworkers, tenants, contractors and vendors, other departments, and the public in a positive, tactful, courteous and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  • Works cooperatively with others and displays a positive attitude to further the goals of the organization.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning and dealing with inquires requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
  • Adaptable to change as the job requires and is receptive to new ideas and willing to try new methods and approaches; and
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.

Assets

  • Working knowledge of Yardi Property Management software is an asset.
