Elk lsland Public Schools Central Administration building is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the division, Central administration is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees.

The departments include:
Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students, and Information Technologies.


Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a full-time term certain Benefits and Health Assistant with our Human Resources department at Central Office.

Commencing January 11, 2023 to May 29, 2023

37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours/day)

EIPS offers a comprehensive benefit package to term certain employees

Open to internal and external applicants. Priority will be given to Permanent Employees.

FUNCTION AND PURPOSE OF POSITION
This position provides accurate, appropriate, and timely administrative support to the Health Recovery area of Human Resources.

Responsibilities include coordination and maintaining communication and required paperwork for the health recovery area, coordinating and delivering all maternity/parental leave sessions and maintaining all paperwork for all maternity/parental leaves, assisting in the delivery of benefit orientation sessions, data entry and responding to general benefit enquiries assisting.

Also, providing assistance to the HR department on projects, events and support during peak times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Health Recovery/WCB

Provide basic/general advise and assistance regarding health recovery goals and objectives

Facilitate referrals and follow-up

Facilitate regular, open communication between stakeholders

Provide support to the employee and family members regarding health recovery issues

Create and maintain Health Recovery/WCB files

Track and monitor employee absences as required to ensure proper documentation is received in a timely manner

Contact and monitor employee's progress/status while on sick leave

Monitor sick leave for commencement of LTD/EDB coverage

Contact with ASEBP and in regards to the status of an employee's disability claim until employee returns successfully to work

Work closely with ASEBP to coordinate return to work plans and rehab plans

Work with the Directors of Human Resources and the employee's supervisor throughout employee's disability

Enter data into HRIS to change status and coverage while on Long Term Disability

Generate Staffing Notifications within HRIS when required for Director's notification and distribution to payroll

Use HRIS system to confirm earnings about employees on rehab assignments to send to ASEBP

Compile disability report on a monthly basis

Assist OH&S Specialist with WCB claims and process claims accurately and in a timely manner

Maintain and coordinate appropriate documentation for the Chronic List

Benefits Administration Support

Assist with maintaining and updating the maternity/parental and personal leaves

Develop a strong understanding of the benefit packages for teaching and non-teaching staff

Assist in answering benefit related questions regarding packages and processes

Assist with maintaining electronic records of benefits forms

Prepare and deliver all bank deposits

Aid in providing communication on benefit changes to applicable departments

Human Resources Support

Assist other Human Resources staff with peak workloads and with special projects and events

Assist with the development of yearly Wellness Strategies and implementation

Assist with organizing and planning wellness events and courses

Update HRIS with upcoming courses and wellness calendars

Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

a) Education:

High School diploma

Supplemented by courses in Office Procedures/Administration

Disability Management Certificate

Disability Management Diploma would be an asset

b) Experience:
12 Months related experience in human resources with a preference to working in health recovery would be an asset

An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDES

Excellent knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Working knowledge of Human Resource Information System

Advanced knowledge of office procedures, routines, and equipment
