The Indigenous Relations and Environmental Policy Branch provides strategic advice and support to all divisions in the ministry with respect to policy, regulatory and operational functions related to environmental and Indigenous communities and organizations.

What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:

• Identify emerging opportunities to improve the sustainability of the provincial transportation system

• Lead, plan and participate in transportation research, policy, planning studies and projects related to environmental assessment with a focus on cultural heritage

• Develop, support, recommend and implement transportation related to cultural heritage studies

• Review, prepare and present policy and technical reports to address strategic transportation issues associated with cultural heritage

• Plan and participate on transportation studies and projects that affect the province

• Provide advice and establish partnerships with stakeholders to work on transportation-related environmental and cultural heritage policy initiatives, including representing the ministry on historical matters

• Review, prepare and present technical reports documents and evidence-based recommendations to senior decision makers as it relates to cultural heritage

How do I qualify?Technical KnowledgeYou have:

• Knowledge of environmental assessment (including cultural heritage)

• Knowledge of transportation design processes, construction, maintenance and operations practices to lead and coordinate the cultural heritage studies and cultural heritage policies under the environmental assessment process and appropriate legislation and policies

• Project management knowledge and skills to lead concurrent project, studies and project teams

• Knowledge of and ability to interpret environmental assessment requirements (including the Ontario Heritage Act and related cultural heritage legislation) and policies relevant to transportation infrastructure design, construction and maintenance, and land use planning

Consultation and Advisory SkillsYou have:

• Knowledge of ministry and government policy development and planning processes, business plans and strategic directions to review, evaluate and provide advice on environmental policy issues (e.g. cultural heritage)

• Ability to consult, negotiate and build effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

Communication SkillsYou can:

• Prepare and present briefings, reports and analysis on policy issues for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences

• Prepare appropriate internal documentation of studies, and the historical requirements of environmental assessment reports and develop/amend policy documents

• Respond to internal and external requests and/or concerns

Research and Analytical SkillsYou have:

• Knowledge of data collection and can plan research methodology and strategy for complex policy research projects

• Ability to evaluate, research and document historical investigations, determine potential impacts of transportation infrastructure projects, and recommend mitigation measures as part of the environmental assessment process, and in accordance with all applicable legislation and policies
