Position Summary:

  • The primary function of the Mental Health & Addiction Support Worker is to ensure that EHN Canada operates in a manner that is consistent with the goals and objectives of the treatment program during those periods when the counselling and administrative staff are not available or on duty.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors all patient activities when counselling staff are not on the premises and ensures that such activities are conducted according to the "Patient Responsibilities", and/or the general operational procedures of the facility.
  • Ensures patients and facility are secure after all scheduled daily activities have been completed in the evening.
  • Makes available to patients, prescribed medications as per Pharmacotherapy and Detox Policies & Procedures.
  • Makes themselves available to any patient experiencing difficulties and needing to talk to a staff member.
  • Immediately notifies the appropriate on call counselling staff, management staff or Medical Director in the event of any emergency or unusual circumstance.
  • Documents in the appropriate logbook any significant occurrences and a general impression of activities during the shift.
  • Participates in case consultation and treatment coordination with other members of multidisciplinary team.
  • Administers first aid (if trained) in case of emergency while waiting for medical staff and/or emergency professionals to arrive.
  • Housekeeping and clerical tasks as per Duty Roster.
  • Answers telephone and handles all calls as instructed.
  • Participates in inservice workshops as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Residential Care Manager and/or Staffing Coordinator.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent diploma.
  • Education and training in the field of Addictions and Mental Health.
  • Must be able to read and write and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have good hearing and eyesight.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Level C.
  • Clear Criminal Records Check for vulnerable adults.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and/or proof of identity.
  • Must be willing to work overnight shifts
