Position Summary


The
Toronto Lung Transplant Program (TLTP) Biobank is expanding, and we are looking to recruit a
Research Technical I to help with collecting, processing, and storing clinical bio specimens and maintaining the biorepository database system.

Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator and/or more senior staff, the Research Technical I utilizes general knowledge and skills to perform routine, somewhat repetitive standardized laboratory research techniques and procedures.


Duties
Responsibilities of the position include, but may not be limited to:

  • Additional duties will include processing of human blood samples, media preparation, tissue banking, data logging as well as general laboratory upkeep, maintenance, and administrative tasks.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with the capacity to ensure proper compliance with research protocols, biological safety measures, and universal precautions are mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment is strongly recommended.
  • Proficiency in English with excellent communication skills will be required.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a healthrelated discipline, or equivalent
  • At minimum, 6 months experience laboratory work/handling biological specimens
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures related to handling, storing and testing of specimens, including biological safety and specimen data management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization, ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and perform multiple concurrent tasks
  • Attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to generate and present various reports from bio specimen data
  • Previous experience with bio specimen shipment and handling dangerous goods would be an asset
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Willingness to learn and problem solving skills
