Working for the University of Alberta

The University of Alberta is teeming with change makers, community builders, and world shapers who lead with purpose each and every day.

We are home to more than 40,000 students in 200+ undergraduate and 500+ graduate programs, over 13,000 faculty and staff, 260,000 alumni worldwide and have been recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for over a decade.

Your work will have a meaningful influence on a fascinating cross section of people—from our students and stakeholders, to our renowned researchers and innovators who are quite literally curing diseases, making discoveries and generating solutions that make the world healthier, safer, stronger, and more just.

Department summary

The Women and Children's Health Research Institute (WCHRI) supports research excellence dedicated to improving the health and lives of women and children.

WCHRI is the only research institute in Canada — and one of the few in the world — to focus on both women's and children's health, including perinatal health.

WCHRI was founded in 2006 as a partnership between the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, with core funding from the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation (SCHF) and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation (RAHF).

Thanks to our funders' generosity, WCHRI is able to support a broad range of research programs for over 500 leading researchers.

WCHRI is committed to ensuring that the research we support is conducted according to the highest scientific and ethical standards, complies with local, national and international policies as well as governing statues and regulations and that internal quality systems are comprehensive, appropriate and effective.

WCHRI has a strategic priority to catalyze pediatric clinical trials, locally and nationally; as a result we have developed a data coordinating centre (DCC) and pediatric clinical trials unit to support pediatric clinical trials (and over time women's health clinical trials) that are run locally, nationally, and internationally.

Our data coordinating centre currently supports several national networks in Canada, including the CHILD-BRIGHT Network and KidsCAN Trials.
