United Way of Calgary and Area (UWCA) is inviting applications from self-motivated individuals to provide research and strategy implementation support to our Community Impact and Partnerships (CI&P) team.

The successful candidate will report to the Director Community Strategies, CI&P department, and will work collaboratively with CI&P team members in supporting implementation of key priorities and actions related to UWCA's community strategies.

The Government of Canada funded this job through the Canada Summer Jobs program. International students are not eligible.

Conduct background research and draft briefing materials including reports, event briefs and project proposals to support UWCA's community strategies in the areas of diversity equity and inclusion, digital equity, and grassroots empowerment.

In collaboration with other CI&P team members, the specialist will define and conduct stakeholder mapping and engagement activities related to equity and inclusion, and grassroots strategies.

Support implementation of UWCA's Akak'stiman (Indigenous)

Strategy:

Provide support to the Akak'stiman strategy team on priority action items including, but not limited to updating UWCA's land acknowledgement protocols, implementing learning plan events, conducting background research on Indigenous issues, assisting with Elders Knowledge Circles, and mapping traditional Indigenous territory and significant landmarks in Calgary.

Community engagement and knowledge mobilization: Working in collaboration with the Director Community Strategies, and other CI&P members, the specialist will develop and deliver at least one UWCA agency partner event or workshop focused on capacity building on issues related to DEI within the social sector.

An undergraduate or graduate degree in social sciences, communications, business, social work, community development, planning or a related area.

Ability to work within a team environment with good relationship building and communication skills.

Knowledge and understanding of systemic barriers faced by vulnerable populations based on their race, gender, education, disability, and income levels.

These include black, racialized, Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ members of our community.

17 per hour, based on a 37.This role is hybrid, and candidates must live within commuting distance to the Calgary office.
