Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Fleet Maintenance and Major Overhaul, the Vehicle Systems Training Supervisor is directly responsible for selection/development of training, coordination, and delivery of training to all Plant and Equipment staff to assure the efficient and safe operations, maintenance, and administration of Transit 's facility, equipment and vehicles.

The Vehicle Systems Training Supervisor performs assessments of future training requirements based on national and provincial legislative and regulatory changes, as well as industry and vehicular equipment trends.

The Vehicle System Training Supervisor oversees the overall planning, direction, staff engagement and day to day administration of the Plant and Equipment Training Branch.


As the _Vehicle Systems Training Supervisor_
you will**:

  • Research, prepare, coordinate and administer internal and external training programs for the Plant and Equipment Division, Winnipeg Transit.
  • Establish branch policy and procedures e.g. training hours, program delivery, systems for recording data related to safety, work requirements and follows up to determine compliance.
  • Prepares and updates policies and procedures manual and Plant and Equipment TIV Manual and arranges distribution to all departmental users.
  • Develop/review/update Safe Work Procedures (SWP) and safety programs to comply with municipal, provincial and federal vehicle, facility and trades regulations.
  • Develop new programs and enhance existing programs on a continuous basis.
  • Be involved in the selection and training of new Plant and Equipment staff.
  • Develops and supervises remedial training programs.
  • Responsible for internal/external accreditations, the preparation and maintenance of various departmental manuals, records, and development of training materials.
  • Coordinates trades training program and external trade accreditation courses including apprenticeships.
  • Participates as a member of the Plant and Equipment Division Management team, and as a management Co-Chair on the Safety Committee, participates in decision making and represents the Department.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Postsecondary university or college graduate in the Certificate of Adult and Continuing Education program or equivalent training and experience.
  • Experience coordinating and administering both internal and external training programs.
  • Experience in program research, development, implementation and delivery.
  • Previous supervisory experience leading, motivating, and performance managing employees.
  • Experience in preparing written materials/policies/procedures.
  • Ability to exercise effective supervisory authority and develop effective interpersonal relationships with a variety of staff, management, and the union.
  • Presentation skills and ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in a productive manner.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point, Acrobat and MMIS.
  • Experience with vehicles and equipment in a large industrial or public transportation setting, and related provincial and federal legislation and codes is an asset.

Conditions of employment:

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Class 2 license with Air Brake Endorsement or ability to obtain in specified time frame set by management
  • Lift Truck Trainer, Elevated Work Platform Trainer, First Aid & CPR, Fall Arrest Trainer Certification or ability to obtain in specified time frame set by management
  • Current in WHMIS 2015 & TDG or ability to obtain in specified time frame set by management
