Title: Indigenous Harm Reduction Educator
Contract: Term (to March 2025)

About the role
Under the direction of the Regional Manager, Mental Health & Wellness, the Indigenous Educator, Harm Reduction supports implementation of Regional opioid/overdose response plans by delivering harm reduction education and training to community. The Indigenous Educator, Harm Reduction works closely with the Regional Mental Wellness team to deliver and adapt as needed, the core curriculum in the Opioid Overdose Response educational model. The curriculum includes Naloxone Training and education on topics such as Indigenous Harm Reduction, Decolonizing Addiction, and Substance Use and Safety as a response to the current opioid emergency impacting First Nation communities. This role collaborates and liaises with provincial teams in the OCMO and OCNO, Health Directors, First Nation leadership, First Nation communities, and federal and provincial health and wellness system partners in order to enhance essential skills and program knowledge.

About you
Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Experience

• Recent, relevant and significant experience in the area of Indigenous harm reduction (usually acquired over a period of 3-5 years)

• Experience working with Indigenous leadership, health professionals and communities

Knowledge

• Knowledge of trauma informed care/practice

• Understanding of intergenerational effects and impacts of colonization

• Knowledge of the Opioid Overdose Response in relation to community or Indigenous Health
