Seasonal Operations Person

Work Schedule:
40 hours per week. On call may be required and or overtime hours may be required.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Implement assigned arboriculture work, including pruning, removal and cabling according to current policies and procedures and generally accepted industry practice(s).
- When required, accessing tree canopies (ascending, descending and working aloft) using only Town approved gear and equipment, and Town approve climbing techniques; plus conducting Arboriculture work while aloft.
- Operate specialized equipment including aerial bucket trucks, chippers, chain saws, stumper and standard tree climbing equipment where required in a safe and efficient manner
- Maintain written records as required, tree maintenance work records, activity cards and safety plans and hazard abatement plans.
- May be required to provide work direction and training to other staff and carry out duties that meet Health and Safety standards in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ability to use tablet computer and desktop computer in order to update completed work electronically as required.
- Duties include, and are not limited to, street and park tree pruning projects, woodlands tree maintenance, including diagnosing tree maintenance requirements and various urban forestry related service requests.
Required Education and Experience:
- A certificate, diploma or degree in Arboriculture or Urban Forestry, or Horticulture from a recognized institution that includes courses in tree climbing and urban forestry. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of proficient experience in tree climbing and tree rigging.
- Excellent customer service and problem solving skills required, as well as demonstrated good judgment.
- You must be physically capable of performing all related tasks to arboricultural industry practices.
- Two (2) years of directly related experience including the operation, routine maintenance, and safe use of related equipment.
- An International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Tree Worker Climbing Specialist
- An ISA Certified Arborist.
- An ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).
- One (1) year of proficient experience with bucket truck operation
- Other ISA Certifications (Tree Worker Aerial Lift Specialist Arborist Utility Specialist, Arborist Municipal Specialist).
- Valid First Aid and CPR training.
- Valid Book 7 training.
- Possess a class "DZ" Ontario Driver's license with a satisfactory driver's abstract.
- Working at Heights Training.
Hourly Rate:
$27.63
