What is the Opportunity?

Faster. Smarter. Safer. This is the commitment of Aecon Utilities in project delivery. Aecon Utilities is poised to become the foremost utility construction provider in Canada, and we are seeking a Project Engineer to help us achieve that.

The Project Engineer, under the guidance of the Project Manager, will play a crucial role in the engineering team.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Develop conceptual and detailed engineering designs for designated Hydro and/or Telecommunication projects.

• Offer advice and direction to the Project Designers to ensure precise delivery meeting utility standards, industry guidelines, and adhering to good engineering practices, policies, and protocols.

• Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to ensure timely completion of designs.

• Advocate, lead, and implement a Safety-First ethos for employees, subcontractors, and consultants in alignment with the project's Environmental Health and Safety Scheme.

• Coach and educate junior engineers and designers.

• Cultivate productive relationships with internal departments that support projects such as other engineering disciplines, drafting, procurement, construction, project management, etc.

• Conduct quality assurance and quality control of engineering designs to ensure compliance with standards and stamp approvals where warranted.

• Incorporate the latest safe practices and techniques into the design.

• Travel to project sites and communicate with clients, contractors, local authorities, and client representatives.

• Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

• Conduct reviews of engineering subcontractors' work for specification compliance and constructability design.

• Fulfill other duties and obligations as necessary.

What You Offer to the Team:

• A degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a reputable institution.

• Professional Engineer certification with Professional Engineers Ontario or equivalent (in good standing).

• Minimum of 3 years of experience reviewing and certifying P. ENG drawings.

• At least 2 years of experience working on projects related to Hydro or Telecommunication works.

• Possession of a valid Driver's License.

• Demonstrated capacity for developing design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications.

• Familiarity with Quick Pole, SPIDA Calc, or PLS CAD is considered advantageous.

• Good understanding of North American codes and standards like CSA, NEC, CEC, IEEE, or NERC.

• Proficiency in Hydro Make Ready packages and Pole Line Analysis.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation is beneficial.

• Experience with Hydro One and Toronto Hydro specifications and standards is an asset.

• Excellent multitasking abilities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

• Capable of working under pressure and possessing a proactive attitude.
