Reporting to the, the Director Sustainability Assurance and Management Systems, the Manager, Management Systems and Integration is accountable for the development and maintenance of the HSEC Management System.

The role includes supporting sites with the implementation and continual improvement of the Teck health and safety, environment and community (HSEC) management systems and associated business practices and tools.

In addition, this role is responsible for the development of cross-disciplinary enterprise documentation and processes for the corporate Sustainability and External Affairs group and assisting with compliance and management systems auditing.

The incumbent must have a thorough and up to date understanding of management systems and Teck's associated requirements pertaining to HSEC and supporting disciplines.


The incumbent is a pragmatic problem solver who will provide advice and support to personnel at Corporate, Functional and Operational levels in the implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures, practices and tools which will help to improve sustainability performance across the company.


The position is global in scope covering all geographic areas in which Teck is active, within and across all Business Units.

The Manager, Management Systems will work closely with Teck personnel at Corporate, Functional and Operational Levels, providing a base of support and expertise in the development and implementation of HSEC management systems in order to improve overall HSEC performance.


The incumbent has no direct reports but manages portions of individuals from SEA as required for specific projects, and consultants as required.

The position will interact across business functions in Teck, with senior management teams and leadership at sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • In addition to leading the fitforbusiness HSEC Management System implementation and performance improvement, the role also involves:
  • Development and implementation of integrated HSEC processes, tools and documentation
  • Providing support for the followup and tracking of HSEC auditrelated findings and corresponding data;
  • Site support for meeting the requirements of key industry associations including the ICMM's Performance Expectations and MAC's Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) program
  • Contractor management of selected external assurance activities (e.g. ICMM, TSM, GHG)
  • Supporting Manager, Sustainability Assurance on the development and implementation of the integrated assurance model (example: The Integrated Assurance Tool, the software and reporting tools)
  • Support for implementation of HSEC management systems and practices: Facilitate the implementation of management system elements at corporate, functional and operating areas. Promote practices that are aligned with the content of international management standards and recognized good management practice and effective control of HSEC risk. Support implementation of Teck's enterprisewide HSEC Management Standards. Utilize a pragmatic approach to drive effectiveness, efficiency and valueadd in system practices, including system integration where it makes business sense to do so.
  • HSEC Auditing: With the Manager, Global HSEC Assurance, participate in the planning, execution and internal reporting of HSEC assurance activities. Conduct postaudit followup activities with sites, including monitoring the status of audit findings within Teck's software tracking tools (e.g. SiteLine) and evaluation of data related to effective closure of audit findings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably higher, in a natural resource discipline, environmental science or engineering, or in the field of sustainability.
  • Experience with the implementation of Management System Standards (e.g. ISO) at an operational level
  • Project management experience
  • Lead auditor competency or equivalent experience
  • Experience in the mining industry is a definite asset
  • Solid computer skills and electronic database management knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral
  • Demonstrated team player
  • Process focused and results oriented
  • Solid coaching skills
  • The incumbent should have a minimum of 1012 years of progressively senior level experience.
  • The position will require travel to various operating and project locations at approximately 20 to 30% of time to all Teck operations and field sites including those at high altitude elevations. #LI-JN1
