Job Summary:

As the Events Manager, you will be the key contact for any clients wanting to book catering functions and all rooms and catering details for conferences.

This position is responsible for developing new and retaining existing clientele in various market segments for the purpose of selling and finalizing catering/banqueting services of the hotel.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for managing guest room blocks and rooming lists to ensure accuracy and proper assignment of contracted concessions.

Some of the Event Manager's duties are

  • Proactively solicit new business and manage relationships with existing and lost business accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals and expand the Hotel's client base.
  • Selling and acquiring corporate and social events focusing on larger groups and events. (i.e. weddings, receptions; meetings and events for conventions).
  • Identify and track business trends, marketing opportunities and market intelligence to improve overall hotel and catering performance.
  • Achieve all personal and team event sales goals to meet the hotel budget through selling and finalizing banquet events according to the Hotel revenue guidelines and strategies of pricing and logistics of the operation.
  • Makes decisions regarding pricing, menu and selling strategies.
  • Negotiate catering and event contracts and vendor selection in accordance with Hotel policy
  • Assumes total responsibility of small to largesized groups, creating excellent relationships through attention to detail; follow through with a personalized touch, empathy for customer needs and perceptions all within a timely manner.
  • Creates detailed Banquet Event Orders for all events, effectively communicating the expectations of the client.
  • Acts as the host for the group while onsite; introduces the Banquet Manager to the client at the beginning of each event and communicates important information to appropriate parties.
Skills/Experience/Education

  • Post-Secondary education in a Hospitality/Tourism related field is a benefit.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in hotel catering/sales, additional experience in the hospitality industry an asset.
  • Food and beverage experience and proven ability to plan and execute events effectively with a strong sense of detail
  • Knowledge of current hospitality industry trends.
  • Good sales skills with an overall attention to detail and organization.
  • Some experience on the convention/banquet floor is also an asset.
  • Detailorientated and able to multitask and handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills

Working Conditions:
This position will be based in a fast-paced office environment. It will demand the ability to multi-task and keep organized, with the main focus being on incoming calls.

  • Office hours will be Monday to Friday approx. 8 am to 5 pm
  • Attend the start of any social functions or meetings to meet with the convener and ensure a smooth, organized start
  • Achieve group rooms and catering revenue targets as determined by the annual budget
  • Attend all sheet and F&B meetings
