Position Summary:


The Varsity Sport Coordinator in the Athletics Department helps provide extracurricular elements in the area of competitive sports to complement a student's education and holistic learning.

The coordinator oversees the scheduling, organizing, developing and supervising of the College's official varsity sports teams and associated supports.

Key responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements, and facilitates varsity sport programs for select teams as assigned by the Manager.
  • Coordinates season schedule, tryouts, and offseason programs.
  • Organizes and books team travel for all designated teams' road games.
  • Monitors the OCAA/CCAA academic eligibility and academic progress requirements of assigned teams and studentathletes and advises or refers to Manager of Athletics or other college support resources as required.
  • Supports the Athletics Student Support Coordinator with monitoring of ongoing progress and support of assigned teams and studentathletes (i.e., through study halls, grade verification, progress checkins).
  • Assists with the annual evaluation of varsity sports including funding, coaching staff, athlete participation, fan attendance & season statistics.
  • Prepares projections for upcoming budget year for each respective varsity sport.
  • Acts as an Athletic Department and College representative for all respective sport alumni, including maintaining database with uptodate contact information.
  • Coordinates the equipment and supply needs for respective varsity sports and works collaboratively with the Athletic Facilities Coordinator to control, monitor, and distribute equipment, uniforms, and supplies as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Threeyear diploma or degree in Sports Administration, Recreation and Leisure Studies or equivalent is required.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR training is required.


Preferred
  • National Coaching Certification
  • Making Ethical Decisions, Safe Sport.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the postsecondary environment with varsity sport teams,.
  • Experience coordinating and convening tournaments, leagues, camps, or other athletic events.
  • Budgeting experience, and good knowledge of common computer software.
  • Experience in a variety of sports and their respective sports regulating bodies and rules.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Solid planning, coordinating, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift over 20 kg or 44 lbs (i.e., sports equipment, uniform bags, boxes of supplies, etc.).
  • Able to travel/attend offcampus home game competitions for field sports.
  • Demonstrated communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.

Evening and weekend work will be required throughout the season periodically.

Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
