The Audit, Compliance & Controls (ACC) team is looking for a Compliance Analyst that brings a strong foundation of work experience as a Governance, Risk and Controls professional with focus on Information Technology (IT). This position reports to the Manager of IT Audit, Compliance and Controls.

The ACC team works closely with IT operational teams to remain compliant with its regulatory obligations and internal corporate policies, and continuously manages key risks within the IT environment. As a member of this team, you are expected to develop subject matter expertise in specific IT control domains and participate in the development and support of Alberta Reliability Standards.

In providing governance services, you collaborate with document owners to ensure their controls and policy documents remain accurate, consistent, and avoid duplications. As a key participant in risk management activities, you work closely with internal auditors and operational teams to identify risks and prevent or mitigate the impact of potential contraventions and policy deviations.

As the liaison between auditors and operational teams, the ACC team strive to contribute to a positive and efficient audit experience. You may represent the AESO in audit interviews, speaking on behalf of control owners and subject matter experts where possible, providing process and evidence walk-throughs and answering questions in interviews.

As the successful candidate, you are a strong technical analyst and apply strong critical thinking skills in your activities. You bring strong technical writing and verbal communication skills to explain complex technical concepts in clear and concise terms, adjusting to the needs of a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and maintains IT governance documentation.

  • Contributes to the design and documentation of IT Controls.

  • Collaborates with operational teams to ensure requirements, controls and associated governance documentation are well understood and become institutionalized.

  • Collaborates with operational teams to actively prevent and mitigate risks of potential contraventions and deviations from required activities.

  • Monitors and interprets evidence, assesses the operating effectiveness of IT Controls, and produces reports on the effectiveness of controls and risks.

  • Analyzes events and incidents leading to potential contraventions and process deviations, identifies root causes and required corrective actions, and risk mitigation actions.

  • Completes compliance documentation for submission to regulators and internal governance processes.

  • Participates in audits as the liaison between IT subject matter experts and auditors, collects and prepares evidence, and represents control owners in audits answering questions and explaining evidence as necessary.

  • Participate in the development of Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS).

  • Participate in AESO's support of Alberta's electricity market participant's compliance with ARS.

What you'll bring to us:

  • Diploma or Degree in Information Technology related fields.

  • 5+ years of professional work experience with a strong foundation of experience in Governance, Risk and Compliance, and Information Technology.

  • Relevant GRC or Risk Management certification is an asset.

  • Experience in compliance and audit of CSOX, SOC, and CIP requirements is an asset.

  • Experience and familiarity with IT industry frameworks such as the NIST CSF, ISO 2700x, COBIT, and ITIL is an asset.

  • Experience with the Service Now platform including the use of IT Service Management, and GRC modules is an asset.
