Marketing within Ancillary Services is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Marketing Manager.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Ancillary Services Marketing Manager leads the development and execution of marketing and communication strategy within Ancillary Services (Includes Residence Services, Bookstore, Parking & Transportation, Unicard, Food Services, Summer Accommodation, Conference & Event Management.) The individual is expected to work independently with minimal supervision. Individual is responsible to directly manage the Marketing & Communication team, which is two direct reports. High stress and pressure during peak work periods as decisions will impact university departments, students, staff and the greater university stakeholders.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Marketing & Communication

  • Develop and implement effective marketing & communication plans in support of unit strategy.
  • Manage, plan and implement a range of campaigns, publications, special events, and other marketing/communication tools that address the goals and objectives of the Ancillary Services unit while supporting the university's integrated marketing strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership, fellow staff, and select vendors to develop and implement the unit's marketing/communication materials, both in print and on the web.
  • Develop and lead the unit's advertising plan, in traditional and digital channels, as appropriate.
  • Write/review ad copy, lead production and analyze results.
  • Develop social media strategies to support unit objectives.
  • Ensure the implementation of strong and consistent brand and positioning protocols within the Ancillary Services portfolio.
  • Work to ensure alignment of marketing/communication across the Ancillary Services portfolio.
  • Adhere to and perpetuate the university's brand and identity guidelines in the interest of protecting the professional reputation and distinct positioning of the institution.
  • Ensure units web design and content supports departmental objectives.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, strategic and measurable cross-departmental marketing and business development plan, in collaboration with the Ancillary Services Directors, to support Ancillary Services strategic and revenue generation priorities.
  • Set clearly defined goals and targets including monitoring metrics and benchmarks, to demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency of strategies.
  • Provide regular analysis and reporting to Ancillary Services leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Participate in the development of the Ancillary Services overall strategic plan designed to support the University's strategic goals.
  • Ensure alignment to divisional plans within Ancillary Services and the University's overall strategic priorities.
  • Ensure marketing resources are used strategically and in co-ordination with Ancillary Services and the University's marketing objectives.

Stakeholder Relations

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with unit leadership and colleagues within the university, faculty, staff, students, and consumers of Ancillary Services offerings.
  • Provide effective marketing and business guidance and support to the portfolio and unit team members.
  • Manage and coordinate with outside agencies and vendors as required.
  • Identify and pursue potential collaborations and revenue-generating activities that could contribute to the university's positioning and Ancillary Services marketing strategy.
  • Participate actively in the cross-campus Marketing Council.
  • Ensure that communications are timely, accurate, informative, professional, and represent the university appropriately.
  • Manage complex issues and challenging interpersonal interactions with composure and diplomacy.
  • Seek expert opinions and advice where appropriate and considered reliable.
  • Proactively develop and maintain trustworthy, productive, problem-solving working relationships with colleagues and staff across the university community.

Staff Management

  • Directly supervise the Marketing & Communication team (2 direct reports).
  • Ensures staff are well trained, competent, supported in their work and encouraged in their development.
  • Coaches and motivates staff, team and project members to develop positive, high trust relationships and operates effectively as a team including problem solving processes and conflict resolution.
  • Selects, trains, manages, supports, and evaluates staff; provides feedback, development opportunities and training; coaches the performance of individuals for continuous improvement and is able to stimulate and support creativity and innovation in others.
  • Continues own personal development, learning and training, maintains standing in professional organizations relevant to the position, and participates in these organizations in a way that will reflect positively on the University.
  • Assists staff with goal setting, performance coaching, and development plans to support staff in achieving both personal and professional success.
  • Builds and leads a team with a clear sense of direction and results orientation.
  • Considers and implements plans for succession planning to ensure the on-going development of the departments objectives.
  • Responsible for hiring and termination of employees.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree, preferable in Marketing, Communication, Journalism or a related field (work experience could be considered as an equivalent.
  • 7+ years progressive experience in communications and marketing field.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic marketing planning and execution.
  • Confidence in providing strategic, data-driven marketing/communication counsel and recommendations to business leads.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically and influence business decisions using appropriate fact-based information.
  • Knowledge of marketing and communication best practices, preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated excellence in creative ideation, writing/editing, audience analysis, marketing campaign implementation, and publication production (print and online).
  • Understanding of social media best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative work environment and work with a diverse set of stakeholders, including senior positions (Director).
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, work under pressure and with frequent deadlines, and handle shifting priorities.
  • Experience in campaign execution using a leading marketing automation tool such as Marketo is an asset.
