St. John Ambulance NS/PEI (SJA), a charitable organization and leader in first aid training, is seeking a Training and Outreach Specialist (Specialist) to support the day-to-day operations on Prince Edward Island.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Community Programs, the Specialist is a vital member of St. John Ambulance on Prince Edward Island. This is a multifaceted role, encompassing office management, instructional training and support, coordination of and support for our various volunteer programs and is the face of SJA at community event in Prince Edward Island. The Specialist will be instrumental in fostering a productive learning environment, providing essential administrative management, and contributing to the success of training and community service initiatives and outreach efforts.

Supported by the Director of Learning for all training activities and the Community Service team for outreach efforts, this position will connect all disciplines, seamlessly, for a memorable customer experience.

Responsibilities will include:

Volunteer Coordinator component of role:

· With direction from the Community Service department, the specialist will establish and maintain effective communication channels with PEI volunteers in both the therapy dog program and Volunteer Medical Responders (VMR) program, to ensure a positive and engaged volunteer community thought out PEI.

· Conduct orientation sessions to familiarize new volunteers with the organization's mission, policies, and expectations, in partnership with volunteer coordinators based out of Dartmouth.

· Engage in program development and strategic planning.

· Manage aspects of volunteer management system, ensuring the volunteer databases are up to date and accurate.

· Work with departmental colleagues on responding to client needs and inquiries in an effective and timely manner.

· Handl sensitive and/or confidential information and verifying the accuracy and completeness of documents.

Emergency Management components of the role:

· Work in partnership with the Emergency Management & Education Specialist and act as the primary point of contact for Emergency Response Unit leadership within PEI

· Plan and implement educational and professional development opportunities in ERU for volunteers in PEI.

· Review existing provincial and municipal memoranda of understanding; and work with local units/branches to establish new MOUs for EM services.

Training components of the role:

· Acquire initial training qualifications through the Instructor Development Program (IDP)

· Participate in ongoing educational development programs with an eye to facilitating instruction of other SJA courses

· Instruct St. John Ambulance First Aid programs and courses both on and off-site, in-person and virtual within the SJA Council jurisdictions as required.

· Support volunteers with basic and advanced training as required.

· Participate in departmental projects as assigned by Management.

· Provide support of and backup for, the Manager of Training and the Instructor Liason

· Teach and mentor new and current instructors to maintain excellence in teaching

Administrative and business development components of the role:

· Seek and participate in community events and conferences to further the mission of SJA

· Assist the Manager of Business Development by identifying new markets and opportunities.

· Maintain the Inventory Control system for office equipment and supplies including the Emergency Response Program.

Essential Requirements:

· A degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience in related fields to health care, science, and/or community development.

· Demonstrated ability to provide a positive client experience creating a helpful, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

· The ability to develop strong working relationships with SJA colleagues and Instructors.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong computer and tech skills and ability to teach through webinar software.

· Proven flexibility and adaptability to work with changing workflows; ability to prioritize own workflow; ability to work under pressure and function as a cohesive team member.

· Excellent organization and time management skills and demonstrated ability to adapt and re-prioritize workflow constantly to meet competing deadlines.

· Travel may be required from time to time within NS and PEI.

· Willingness to work evenings and weekends on occasion.

· Hold a valid Driver's License and willingness to drive to sites within Council jurisdiction.

· Work independently and collaboratively with all SJA colleagues.

Assets include:

· Teaching or instructional experience (in class and virtually)

· Emergency management and response experience within Atlantic Canada.
