EMPLOYMENT ROLE: Employment Counselling and Service Delivery


Position Scope:

Reporting directly to the Chief Programs Officer for the Native Council of Nova Scotia , the employment and training division of the Native Council of Nova Scotia. The Case Manager's primary role is to ensure that rural, urban off reserve Indigenous Peoples are assisted in accessing, understanding and are appropriately referred to training and employment interventions to enhance their training and employment goals.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

All APTEC Case Management positions focus on the Indigenous client and help them reach their employment and training goals. Typically, they concentrate on three main areas with their Indigenous clients, they are:

  • Supporting the client to identify and address barriers to employment or training;
  • Identify with the client a path to access training or employment; and
  • Supporting the Indigenous client to identify and access financial supports to assist them through training or gaining skills through work experience or our wage subsidy program directly with an Employer.

Case Managers will connect eligible Indigenous clients to the programs and services available through APTEC, where criteria allows, and must work as partners with the client. In this role, it is also essential to bridge partnerships with industry and community agencies in order to broaden your reach in the delivery of the APTEC service to ultimately benefit the Indigenous target group.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. High School diploma (or completed GED), related experience will be considered a definite asset;
  2. Knowledge about the rural, urban, off-reserve Indigenous peoples situations in Nova Scotia and Indigenous issues particularly those impacting on their social well-being;
  3. Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral, professionalism is a must;
  4. Ability to complete quarterly statistical information and written/oral presentations; and
  5. An understanding of employment and training programs and willingness to learn and to take additional training.

SALARY & POSITION TERM:

Salary range: negotiable

Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m

Benefit package is available upon successful completion of a 3 month probationary period.
