Occupational Therapist Nephrology/Urology (Job ID: 4205)

The Transplant/Nephrology/Urology inpatient unit is looking for an Occupational Therapist (OT) to work in a fast-paced inpatient setting. The unit is a medical surgical unit with a patient population from a variety of specialties including Kidney Transplant, Nephrology, and Urology.

The OT works within a changing environment and as part of an interprofessional team to advocate for and promote wellness while ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and ethical patient care. The OT shares his/her knowledge and expertise with others and contributes to the advancement of practice excellence.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provision of Occupational Therapy to promote, maintain or restore health and wellbeing through engagement in meaningful occupations in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. Occupational therapy services will include assessment, treatment, consultation, discharge planning and education to patients, family members/caregivers, external agencies and SMH staff.
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization.
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
  • Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
  • Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Quality Improvement (QI) processes and have experience implementation and evaluating QI initiatives.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program.
  • Must be certified to perform the MoCA (or be willing to certify within first 3 months)

Length of Temporary Contract: 18 months
