We are looking for a proactive and safety-conscious Lab Manager to join our team. As our Lab Manager, you will oversee the operational management of our R&D labs, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. You will collaborate with facilities management and support our scientific team while implementing best practices for continuous improvement.


Our ideal candidate is a strong collaborator who is solution-focused, hands on, and helps as needed to support our dynamic and innovative lab and team.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


Lab Operations 

  • Manage daily lab operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory, procurement, and waste management.
  • Proactively and continuously monitor for potential risks and challenges associated with lab operations and develop risk mitigation strategies. 
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Manage R&D shipping, receiving, and scheduling to optimize resource utilization.
  • Train lab users and maintain training records.
  • Liaise with lab users and support the development and management of the R&D budget.


Health & Safety 

  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance with all lab protocols and regulations.
  • Manage and maintain our health and safety framework, including policies and systems.
  • Provide safety training and monitor for potential risks.
  • Lead our safety program in collaboration with our Joint Operational Health and Safety Committee.
  • Maintain safety documentation and generate Safety Data Sheets (SDS) as needed.


Team Support

  • Assist lab staff with troubleshooting, logistics, and resource coordination.
  • Collaborate with facilities for maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records for lab operations.
  • Additional responsibilities, as required. 


ABOUT YOU

  • Hands-on and can-do attitude, detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
  • Proven track record in change management and excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to translate business objectives into actionable lab operations strategies.
  • Strong collaboration/interpersonal skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Creative and resourceful problem-solver used to multi-tasking


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering, or related field. 
  • 5+ years of relevant lab management experience in academia, industry, or government or the equivalent education and experience combined.
  • Experience in health and safety, with BSL-2 and containment experience.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, start-up scale industry environments are an asset.
