McCain Foods recently announced its Largest One-Time Investment in 65 Years Company History in Lethbridge, Alberta.
McCain Foods is investing $600 million CAD in a substantial expansion that would more than double the size of its facility and workforce in Lethbridge, Alberta. The expansion will create two new state-of-the-art production lines, one for French fries line and one for potato specialty products.

Job Summary

As a member of our Corporate Engineering for North America, you will join the project team as a key member to help to manage the development and execution of the construction of our new facility using state-of-the-art technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Oversee the design and review of equipment and systems using corporate standards.
  • Interface with engineers to define project scope requirements and incorporate corporate standards.
  • Evaluate new process technologies to improve existing systems and resolve process and safety problems.
  • Act as a safety ambassador, creating a safe workplace for McCain as well as contractor
  • Acquire and evaluate project contractor bids in conjunction with procurement.
  • Prepare project specifications and/or tender documents.
  • Manage release of design input to suppliers (contractors, component suppliers, etc.).
  • Perform supplier site visits to ensure compatibility of equipment designs with current plant configurations.
  • Produce site visit reports, contractor job meeting minutes, project material listings, purchase orders, installation schedules and preparation of any other documentation relating to installation of systems.
  • Assist in the development of new installation techniques and standards.
  • Manage the installation of state of the art processing modules ranging in dollar value from $100K-$10MM meeting deadlines and budgets. Identify and effectively utilize project resources.
  • Reviews and accepts deliverables at scheduled milestones.
  • Manage the resolution of technical issues identified by suppliers.
  • Manage technical documents provided by suppliers.
  • Provide technical assistance to processing facilities, to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinated commissioning of the installation to ensure reliable (vertical) and safe start-up.
  • Performs project closure in conjunction with the project team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no direct reports. Interacts with others using project management and managing by influence skills. Supervises third party and company resources on functional basis.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (ME/EE/IE/ChE) or related field, or equivalent related experience.
  • Additionally it is preferred the incumbent have up to five (5) years of experience directly related to food processing.
  • Familiarity with processing techniques.
  • Experienced in the development and maintenance of plant system documents, process flow sheets, block diagrams, schedules and spend tracking.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills
Proficient word processing and spreadsheet skills. Proficient AutoCAD and Microsoft Project skills.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when on the production floor and moderately loud when in the office area.

Ability to travel though out North America. Expected travel up to 50% if not located in Lethbridge.
