McCain Foods recently announced a significant investment in Lethbridge, Alberta, marking the largest in its 65-year history. The company is injecting $600 million CAD into an expansion project that will substantially grow its facility and workforce in the region. The expansion includes the addition of two cutting-edge production lines, one dedicated to French fries and the other to potato specialty products.

Job Summary
As a member of the Corporate Engineering team for North America, you will play a crucial role in managing the development and construction of McCain's new facility, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Oversee equipment and systems design following corporate standards.
  • Interact with engineers to define project requirements and integrate corporate standards.
  • Explore new process technologies to enhance existing systems and address safety issues.
  • Champion safety initiatives for McCain and contractors to create a secure workplace.
  • Evaluate project contractor bids alongside procurement.
  • Create project specifications and tender documents.
  • Manage design input release to suppliers and conduct supplier site visits to ensure equipment compatibility with existing plant setups.
  • Develop installation schedules, site visit reports, and other relevant documentation for system installations.
  • Aid in establishing new installation practices and standards.
  • Supervise the installation of advanced processing modules within specified budgets and timelines.
  • Review and accept deliverables at project milestones.
  • Handle technical issues identified by suppliers and manage supplier-provided documents.
  • Offer technical support to processing facilities for enhanced quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate project commissioning to ensure a smooth and safe start-up.
  • Lead project closure activities in collaboration with the team.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not involve direct reports but requires interaction with project resources using management and influential skills, overseeing third-party and company resources functionally.

Qualifications
To excel in this position, candidates must be capable of performing each essential duty effectively. Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (ME/EE/IE/ChE) or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Preferably, at least five (5) years of experience directly related to food processing.
  • Familiarity with processing techniques, plant system documentation, and use of AutoCAD.

Language Skills
The ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, technical procedures, and more. Capable of presenting information effectively to various audiences.

Mathematical Skills
Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference for practical applications.

Reasoning Ability
Skilled in solving practical problems and interpreting different types of instructions effectively.

Computer Skills
Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project.
