Cloud Chamber is looking for an expressive Senior Cinematic Lighting artist who lives for finding the right mood, and knows how a certain time of day can make that mood tell a story. You delight in walking the razor’s edge of art and technology. You are a master of your craft, seamlessly blending the worlds of video games and cinematic storytelling. You speak the language of lighting and composition, instinctively understanding how these elements can define the emotional tone of a scene. You empower your team to innovate and constantly push the boundaries of gaming and cinematic technique. Your goal is to bring to life and push forward the Creative Vision for the fantastical world of BioShock.

Job Details:

  • Contribute to the construction of the lighting pipeline within the Unreal engine.
  • Collaborate with lighting and technical artists in multiple locations to elevate the composition of game environments.
  • Partner with the animation and cinematics teams to light in-game and pre-rendered cinematics.
  • Create shot composition and rendering of key art and marketing shots when required.
  • Collaborate with the Cinematic and VFX teams to solve challenging technical lighting problems.
  • Troubleshoot issues in Blueprint and find elegant solutions.
  • Support art best practices and standards within the team.
  • Contribute to a positive, proactive, and agile work environment that encourages innovation and collaboration.
  • Collaborate closely with the Lighting Lead to understand and uphold the visual style and direction for lighting.
  • Contribute to and help maintain efficient lighting pipelines and workflows.
  • Research and share new techniques and technologies related to lighting with the goal of continuous development and improvement.
  • Work closely with other groups within the art department to achieve cohesive and visually stunning results.
  • Receive and apply constructive feedback as part of our iterative process effectively while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Maintain the values of Cloud Chamber.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of real-time lighting experience in 3D AAA games, with an ability to generate final lighting and rendering.
  • Experience as a Senior Lighting Artist on one AAA title.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art or Digital Media, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with modern FPS engines and modern art pipelines.
  • Must be comfortable taking on responsibility for the development of complex lighting solutions and workflows.
  • Knowledge of UE Sequencer.
  • Has a strong eye for color and composition.
  • Has production rig setup and character lighting experience.
  • Working knowledge of Lumen and Blueprint.
  • Experience developing high quality lighting under runtime constraints.
  • Experience working with a team of artists towards a common goal.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Able to discuss, support, and advocate for your opinions while being receptive to differing viewpoints.
  • Highly detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to embrace change for a fast-growing organization.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities, and creatively solve challenging problems.
