Job Profile

There is a temporary opening for the above position within the Community Development Department, Planning Services Division available immediately. Reporting to the Acting Manager of Site Plans and Special Projects this position is responsible for the following duties:

What you will be doing
  • Responsible for the review of Committee of Adjustment applications and the preparation of recommendation reports.

  • Reviews various development applications, including minor variance, consent, site-plan, zoning by-law and official plan amendments; provides professional planning advice and recommendations.

  • Effectively communicates with applicants and the public.

  • Responds professionally to phone, email, and in-person inquiries in a thorough and timely manner, providing exceptional customer service in accordance with the City's core values.

  • Reviews and ensures all notices for new applications, including notices for statutory public meetings are completed.

  • Prepares and delivers presentations at Committee of Adjustment Hearings and/or Council meetings and responds to questions raised by the Committee or Council.

  • Coordinates and consults with City staff and agencies, developers, consultants, and members of the public on various minor variance and consent applications and may be consulted on other development applications.

  • Participates at the Ontario Land Tribunal by providing expert advice, if required.

Education

Possession of a four-year Undergraduate Degree in Planning or Urban Design, or equivalent.

Experience and Knowledge
  • Two to three years of related experience in a planning role, including development application review.

  • Current memberships in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.

  • Knowledge of the Planning Act and other relevant planning legislation.

  • Urban design experience or education is considered an asset.

  • Registered Professional Planners designation through the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.

  • Valid G Class Driver's License, or equivalent, and access to a reliable vehicle for business purposes. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof upon hire.

  • Proficiency in computer and office applications, including AMANDA, Microsoft Office, Onpoint, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Sketchup.

This position is within Grade 11 of the inside workers union salary schedule and has an hourly range of $47.93 to $50.94.

Hours of work

The regular hours of work are in accordance with the collective agreement, however, currently are 8:30am to 4:30pm. (35 hours per week), Monday to Friday.
