Job Summary

As a part of Calgary Economic Development's Marketing & Communications team, The Marketing Manager supports the development and implementation of CED's marketing strategy, promoting Calgary as the location of choice for business, investment and talent, in addition to promoting CED as the lead economic development agency.

The marketing manager plays a crucial role in implementing various aspects of the marketing strategy, overseeing key portfolios, and mentoring junior team members


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of strategies for CED's website properties, social media presence and email marketing programs.
  • Support the development of paid marketing strategies and plans, leveraging audience insights as well as trends to meet the goals set out in the business plan.
  • Optimize and evolve CED's owned channels, ensuring content is aligned with CED's content strategy, brand, and related business unit objectives.
  • Collaborate and consult with the other business units within the organization to understand, evaluate and develop effective marketing and activation programs in support of their respective business objectives and annual business plans.
  • Support channel leads in making data driven decisions and understanding best practices for their channel.
  • In collaboration with media vendor, track campaign results and optimize for continuous improvement in content and targeting, employing data driven decision making.
  • Optimize paid media processes for improved efficiency internally and with agency partners.
  • Support the phased rollout of and drive awareness for the new Calgary brand including the application of its platform and visual ID to the CED brand.
  • Provide support and direction on content and programming for signature events, BD activations and sponsorships.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on marketing trends, tools, and methodologies.

You are a seasoned marketing and communications generalist who excels at crafting programs that drive awareness, engagement, and lead generation. Your expertise lies not only in capturing attention but also in converting audiences into actionable leads through strategic and effective campaigns.


You are very detail-minded and thrive at managing project schedules, deliverables and deadlines in a fast-paced environment that demands juggling multiple priorities simultaneously.


You have a passion for our city, and are excited at the prospect of working on projects that build on the energy of our community.

Education

  • Post-secondary education in relevant fields such as marketing, communications, social media or events.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related area during which professional capability has been clearly demonstrated.
  • Familiarity with the non-profit sector, community organizations and community investment models is an asset.
  • Experience working with business stakeholders, sponsors and government officials.
  • Experience writing for a variety of documents such as advertising, social media content, briefing documents, news releases, presentations and speeches.
  • Experience dealing with creative and digital agencies, the media, social media, event planning and overall communication and marketing.
  • Experience working with politically sensitive and confidential information

Key Competencies

  • Expert level knowledge of internal and external communications, advertising, brand, media relations, social media, stakeholder relations and event management.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to multi-task several projects at once.
  • Effective at working independently and as a member of a team with an ability to collaborate and build consensus across the business
  • Experience with CMS and CRM platforms
  • Understanding of economic development and/or international trade
