Description

The Faculty of Science invites applications for a Limited-Term Instructor for a period of 2 years. This is an open disciplinary search in the general area of Quantum Science and Technology ; any candidate with scholarship and teaching expertise within the general areas of quantum science and technology represented in the Faculty of Science is encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of the departments in the Faculty of Science, depending on specific expertise.

Description of Position

The successful candidate will develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in quantum science and technology, including graduate courses within the recently-launched Master of Quantum Computing program. Depending on the specific background of the successful candidate, courses beyond quantum science and technology may also be part of the workload.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics), and must have a strong record of teaching at the post-secondary level. Specific expertise in quantum computing and in science education pedagogy will be assets. Candidates who are near completion of their program will be considered so long as they have earned their PhD prior to the position start date. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and learning and a desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate will have tangible evidence of collegiality and interest in working for their extended program, department, faculty, and institution.

Description of Work Environment

The home department for this position will be identified based on the successful candidate's academic background. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration will exist to develop and enhance pedagogical strategies through active engagement with the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology and Calgary's new Quantum City hub. Active engagement with the Taylor Institute of Teaching and Learning at the University further enhances the opportunities to support and develop active learning approaches.
