AltaGas - Team Lead, EHS - Trucking & Logistics

Reporting to the Director, EHS Midstream; this position is responsible for providing EHS solutions and alignment to Midstream Operations with a specific focus on the Trucking business. This individual will also provide direct leadership and guidance to the Transportation field based EHS Advisors. As a key member of the Midstream EHS team, this position will shape the Midstream vision and culture to ensure that EHS continues to be a critical foundation and aligned to the broader organization.

You Will:

  • Lead and manage the EHS team responsible for Petrogas trucking and logistics operations (include Blending sites), ensuring a culture of safety excellence is cultivated throughout the division. Provide coaching to Dispatch and Transportation leaders to build EHS capabilities.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of local, state/provincial, and federal regulations pertaining to the energy and logistics industries. Ensure that Petrogas and Midstream operations remain fully compliant with all relevant laws and regulations. Complete necessary reports to regulators (TDG, Canutech, AER, Worksafe BC).

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential hazards and risks associated with Petrogas trucking and logistics activities. Implement strategies to reduce the risk of incidents and accidents. Conduct customer site hazard assessments as required.

  • Foster collaboration and coordination between the Petrogas division and Altagas Midstream to enhance safety standards, share best practices, and streamline EHS initiatives across the organization.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and training programs specific to the Petrogas division. Ensure that EHS programs align with company-wide goals and objectives.

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective and preventive actions. Drive a culture of learning from incidents to prevent future occurrences.

  • Effectively communicate EHS goals, expectations, and updates to employees at all levels. Promote engagement and awareness of safety and environmental responsibilities.

  • Complete regular driver / truck / site inspections (compliance checks, competency checks, job observations, driver ride alongs') to verify driver competency and adherence to policies and procedures. Provide coaching to drivers where gaps are identified.

  • Manage various systems / tools including ISNetworld, Complyworx, Workhub, DriverCheck, SDS Binders, ERAC / ERAP.

  • Support the development and implementation of emergency response drills. Be available to provide emergency response support which may require mobilization to the incident site to fulfill Incident Commander role.

  • Utilize data analysis to track EHS performance, identify trends, and implement data-driven improvements in EHS programs and practices. Ensure team reports EHS KPIs on a timely basis.

  • Travel to field locations and customer facilities to engage with drivers, dispatch, transportation leadership and EHS personnel (minimum 25%).

You Have:

  • 10 years of experience in EHS leadership roles, with a strong background in the energy and logistics sectors.

  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, best practices, and industry standards.

  • In-depth knowledge of trucking and logistics regulations, best practices, and industry standards.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive collaboration.

  • Management system experience (managing, maintaining , improving)

  • Experience working within the Midstream sector would be considered an asset

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field . Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred
