The Ontario Cannabis Store provides safe, responsible access to recreational cannabis for adults 19 and older. We operate the sole legal online store for recreational cannabis in Ontario and are the provincial wholesaler of cannabis for private retail stores.

We’re looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Finance team. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will lead the accounting function for the OCS and manage the transactional and reporting activities for Licensed Producers (LPs) accounts payable, inventory and revenues. This role will perform day-to-day general ledger accounting, financial reporting and analysis for the OCS. As Senior Financial Analyst, you will also prepare internal reporting packages and executive presentations for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Board of Directors (BOD).
Prepare and review accruals for month-end reconciliation
Collaborate with the Information Technology (IT) Applications & Solutions Delivery team to determine finance requirements for revenue business systems and business processes

Receive and process RMA (Return to Manufacturer) credit memos for returned ecommerce and wholesale products
Communicate monthly Return to Vendor (RTV) or Return to Manufacturer (RMA) listings to appropriate Senior Financial Analyst
Partner with the Client Services and Account Management teams to continuously improve revenue accounting processes
Inventory Analysis
Develop accounting policies and procedures
Closely partner with the distribution centre (DC) and IT Application Services team to review the daily inventory snapshot, conduct variance analysis and resolve any variances
Resolve complex inventory issues with the DC using robust inventory accounting processes
Partner with other Senior Financial Analysts to oversee the inventory chargeback process
Liaise with Supply Chain, Retail, Merchandising and IT teams to improve efficiency of accounting and finance procedures
Develop inventory models to assist in analysis of cost of sales
Co-ordinate inventory transfers from item SKUs with the DC, Supply Chain, Merchandizing, and IT teams
Co-ordinate month end inventory receipts with Supply Chain and the DC and ensure no accruals
Determine and record inventory overhead costs on a monthly/ad hoc basis
Perform annual inventory impairment testing as needed
Lead finance efforts in the year end physical count process at the DC
Prepare monthly vendor chargeback reconciliation and ensure that the 3PL partner has adjusted physical inventory
Partner with treasury and accounts payable department for approval of LP vendor invoices
Review account statements and resolve variances or issues as required
Create and maintain complex spreadsheets to be used as a source of data for monthly presentations to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and OCS Board of Directors (BOD)
Conduct monthly calculation and analysis of inventory KPIs including turns, days and average inventory to form part of the monthly finance presentation to CFO and BOD
Extract critical financial information from Microsoft Dynamics 365 to help prepare complex financial spreadsheets
Drive the compilation of monthly presentation related to financial performance and position of the wholesale and retail businesses for the CFO and the OCS BOD.
Participate in the year-end external audit of the OCS accounting systems and records
Participate in internal controls audits with the OCS Internal Audit team
Accommodate audit requests with expediency and priority, including but not limited to requests made in support of the annual financial audit performed by the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario
Ensure all information requested by the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario is accurate and prepared on time
Prepare and reconcile monthly HST Remittance Report and submit to Manager-Finance & CFO for final approval
Submit approved HST Remittance Report to Senior Financial Analyst responsible for Treasury for filing with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field OR a combination of education/experience
5+ years of experience in Finance and/or Accounting
5+ years of experience in inventory and/or revenue accounting is preffered
Experience within the public sector would be an asset
Excellent accounting knowledge, finance, and analytical skills
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
Sound knowledge of management accounting principles and financial accounting principles (IFRS – existing and future requirements)
The current in office requirement is a minimum of 3 days/week (may be more depending on business needs). The OCS office is located near York Mills and Yonge Street. However, OCS reserves the right to change this policy and its office location at any time.
Employment Type: 6-month Fixed Term Contract
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
