EMC also operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians every day. We achieve this through more than 1,400 employees, including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers, and support staff.

Senior Manager, Communications & Stakeholder Relations

The Internal Senior Communications Advisor will lead the development and execution of Emergency Medical Care's (EMC) internal communications strategies, keeping employees informed ensuring they receive communications when, where and how they need. All while ensuring employees understand and see themselves in the organization's strategic priorities, values and operational goals.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications and Stakeholder Relations, the successful candidate will work collaboratively at all levels of EMC and Medavie Health Services (MHS). The Internal Senior Communications Advisor will have a strategic approach to communications tactics and will excel in a collaborative fast-paced environment. They will have a strong understanding of internal communications best practices and champion the important role it plays in an organization. The ideal candidate will have experience in audience engagement and consistent message development to help maximize employee interest, adoption and understanding.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with partnership across EMC and Medavie Health Services to develop and execute internal communications strategies
  • Advise on and lead strategic internal communications; develops relationships with various business partners and senior leaders across the organization
  • Lead the development of the communications plans for change initiatives and engagement campaigns
  • Support the evolution of the Intranet site including content strategy, curation, distribution, and analysis of site content
  • Develop and report on key performance indicators for internal communications activities
  • Oversee, write and edit content for internal communications, including (but not limited to): email, speaking remarks & scripts for employee events, presentations/materials for management meetings, internal advisories, key business updates, etc.; liaises directly with internal business partners to obtain relevant detail/input and deliver on task
  • Recommend/lead best practices for communicating change initiatives for the organization with particular focus on reach within hybrid work environment
  • Coordination and support of senior leadership meetings and visits
  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external messages and, where possible, guide the sharing of messages internally first.
  • Supports design and translation requirements for internal communications needs, working with creative services and translation teams
  • Day to day management of internal communication activities

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for issues and crisis communications, including on call coverage.
  • Some travel within Nova Scotia is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or other related field and five+ years related experience
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including editing, proofreading and attention to detail
  • A storyteller with an ability to take complex information and distill into digestible, engaging, informative pieces for employees; ability to modify writing tone and voice
  • Up-to-date understanding of innovations in internal communications practices, particularly new platforms/digital channels
  • Strong understanding of change management theory and practice
  • Ability to deal with highly confidential and sensitive subjects/issues in a professional manner
  • Solid time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and produce materials to meet tight deadlines

  • Strong understanding of change management theory and practice
  • Advanced skills with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Webex
  • Flexible to work outside of normal hours and open to occasional travel
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset, but not required, for this position.

EMC falls under the Nova Scotia provincial protocol for mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination.
