The Neighbourhood Day Camp Inclusion Counsellors are responsible for providing one on one support to campers with special needs. Inclusion Counsellors will receive training and support but should come into the role with experience working in this sector. Inclusion Counsellors are caring, enthusiastic, and patient and will use integrative strategies to ensure each camper's success in the program.
Providing 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 support to children with special needs.
Assisting in developing program inclusion strategies to create a positive experience for all campers.
Language
Ability to work in English
Bilingualism is an asset
1-2 years' experience working in an outdoor education or camping environment
~ Experience working with children with special needs, such as behavioural, cognitive, or physical
~ NSL Certification, YMCA – Healthy Child Development, Fundamental Movement Skills – NCCP certification or other relevant certification will all strongly be considered as assets
~ Must be 16 years old by June 24, 2024.
Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
Quality Focus: Ensures that success criteria for self, staff and programs are set, reviewed and surpassed regularly to provide excellent service delivery.
Acknowledges and understands how to manage and educate others of risk and harm reduction.
Plans and implements quality programming in a developmentally appropriate environment.
