MOBILITY POSTING

Applicants must have training and/or experience in early learning and have experience as an elementary classroom teacher. Candidates will have a strong understanding of Indigenous pedagogy, Indigenous histories and cultures, and be able to demonstrate expertise in embedding Indigenous content in a wide range of instructional strategies inclusive of early learning and elementary literacy to support Indigenous Learner success.

Applicants will work closely with classroom teachers and the Indigenous Education Team to support Indigenous early learners develop their reading and writing skills and strategies. Applicants must also be prepared to use technology (e.g. computers, Teams, e-mail, websites, MyEducation BC etc.) for planning, communication, instruction and reporting purposes; and be prepared to support the Equity in Action Agreement and the District Enhancement Agreement goals. Applicants must be prepared to work with educators and participate/plan in the support of Indigenous initiatives throughout District schools.

Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners
  • Working knowledge of using computing technology to support learning
  • A commitment to the Principles of Inclusive Schools and Principles of Learning

Specific to this posting:

  • Bachelor of Education (Elementary)
  • Two years successful classroom experience at the elementarylevel
  • Knowledge of local Saanich Indigenous Communities
  • Significant leadership experience, preferably in relation to developing and enhancing Indigenous community and cultural awareness
  • Demonstrated successful experience acting as a role model for and working with Indigenous students supporting them in literacy, numeracy and the development of learning and life skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing connections and partnerships with Indigenous Communities and raising cultural awareness in school
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrated through positive relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians and the community
  • Strong administrative skills to manage the ongoing documentation processing requirements associated with the Indigenous Support Program

Preference will be given to those applicants who:

  • have a minimum of 2 years classroom teaching experience from Kindergarten to Grade 5;
  • have literacy intervention training, skills and experience at the primary level
  • have thorough knowledge of the redesigned curriculum with integration of Indigenous Worldviews and Perspectives;
  • ability to successfully model proven Indigenous perspectives and methodologies using the First Peoples Principles of Learning;
  • ability to demonstrate strong leadership in all areas of Indigenous Education;
  • knowledge of the W?SÁNE? culture, local protocols, and current issues of concern to persons of Indigenous ancestry, including members of the W?SÁNE? Nation and those of other First Nations, Métis, and Inuit backgrounds;
  • readiness to work as a member of the Indigenous Education team including working with Elementary classroom teachers, Indigenous Support Staff, District Teacher Leaders, District Staff and Committees;
  • are willing to work in a collaborative/team environment;
  • have training/experience and be willing to use Quality Assessment practices
  • ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, and community agencies
