Regulatory Compliance Specialist

Empire life is looking to hire a Regulatory Compliance Specialist to join our Compliance team
As a Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you will monitor, provide oversight and report on regulatory compliance for the Company. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist will be guided by defined goals and objectives under the general supervision of the Senior Manager, Compliance in support of all business units.

Provide support to business units for compliance with federal and provincial legislation and external industry association guidelines using a risk based approach
Facilitate compliance risk assessment, development of compliance controls and testing of those controls across Empire Life, and communicate compliance testing results with business units
Advise on and monitor business unit remediation of compliance control weaknesses
Provide regular reporting on compliance matters, highlighting trends or issues in business units
Assist with managing the Regulatory Compliance Management database
Work with business unit compliance and members of Compliance on compliance issues and facilitate and provide updates to Compliance Management
Act as subject matter expert and provide advice and consultative services on all matters relating to compliance
Act as liaison with business units, external regulators, industry associations and other insurance companies on matters of compliance
Participate in special assignments and projects involving compliance and other initiatives that present regulatory compliance risk
Support and assist the team with other responsibilities and projects as assigned

5+ years relevant experience in the financial services/insurance/securities industry preferably with experience in a compliance, audit or risk management
~ Knowledge of insurance law and compliance requirements
~ Experience reporting, analyzing, designing or monitoring controls
~ Experience with Regulatory Compliance Management software (Ethidex or similar)
~ Ability to adapt, be flexible, innovative and creative towards new processes and a new way of doing things
~ Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders and business units
~ Proficiency with MS Excel or Google Sheets is an asset
~ Power BI is considered an asset
