The Awarded Resource is expected to be on site 3 days per week. POSTION REQUIREMENTS - Criteria & Qualification MUST HAVE SKILLS:

        • Relevant post-secondary education in the areas of business administration, accounting, or finance. Acceptable education includes degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
        • Clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group.
        • The ability to pay attention to detail.
        • Knowledge of accounting principles and Canadian public sector accounting standards or equivalent.
        • Available for onsite meetings in Edmonton as required. Frequency of onsite meetings may be once per month.
        • 3 years experience with and knowledge of financial reporting ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial statements and using Microsoft Excel.
        • 3 years experience working in accounting systems creating processes, managing budgets, and internal controls.
        • 3 years relevant experience in a role similar to this. Experience must be applicable to this role.
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:
        • Pursuing or have CPA designation.
        • 1 year experience with process improvement, documentation and requirement gathering.
        • 1 year experience working with Information Technology accounting and processes.
        • 3 years strong analytical, decision-making, and organizational skills.
        • Experience working in or for the public sector.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Description & Responsibilities Description: Financial Analyst is accountable for planning, conducting, and reporting on compliance and assurance reviews for the Ministry. The position performs reviews to examine, evaluate and report on various aspects of risk management, internal controls, and operational governance; and provides financial expertise and analysis, and reports on the findings. The analyst will be responsible for a variety of financial analysis and reviews including:
        • Accounting Officer (AO) type compliance reviews providing the appropriate financial analysis along with strategies for the remediation of all errors and irregularities encountered.
        • Complete sensitive and special financial reviews (e.g. employee theft, personal use of P-Cards, etc.).
The Financial Analyst will also serve as a resource that provides financial information and advice to various stakeholders in the Ministry and within the ministry program areas (e.g. Expenditure Officers and program staff) who are responsible for financial processes and analysis (e.g. expenditures). The position will also assist stakeholders with decision making by providing financial analysis and business advice. The large number of different integrated management/financial information systems used across Ministry, and frequent upgrades and introduction of new systems contributes to the complexity. The position requires the ability to continuously learn, to utilize the knowledge gained, and to adapt to the changing environment the Analyst may find themselves working in.
