The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism, a keen interest in the mining industry, and the ability to produce high-quality, engaging content for both our print and online platforms. As a Staff Writer, you will play a crucial role in delivering independent, industry-leading content that informs and captivates our readership.

This is a full-time, permanent position with hybrid work arrangements, requiring to be in the Toronto office three days a week.

Content Creation
Produce independent, industry-leading mining-related content and personality profiles for our website and newspaper through original story ideas and assigned stories.
Contribute and develop multimedia editorial content, including podcasts and videos, to enhance our digital offerings.
Contribute sponsored content stories in collaboration with partners.

Identify and pursue relevant stories by engaging with industry leaders at events and through interviews.
Work collaboratively with team members to ensure consistent and cohesive content, style, and messaging across all platforms.
Participate in brainstorming and planning editorial calendars and content strategies.

Event Support
Assist with events, including conferences, trade shows, and roundtables by providing coverage and content creation.
Travel domestically and internationally to mining projects and conferences as required to gather insights and report on industry developments.

Serve as backup for team tasks, including website management, content editing, newsletter scheduling, and administrative duties.
Handle news coverage, video production, and event moderation when required.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, English, Geology or a related field.
~2+ years of professional writing experience, preferably within the mining, resources and/or business sector.
~1+ years in editorial experience is an asset.
~ Proven professional experience working in both print and digital media.
~ Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities with a strong portfolio of published work.
~ Proficient in CMS platforms such as WordPress and digital publishing tools like Adobe InCopy.
~ Competent in using social media platforms and management tools such as Hootsuite.
~ Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
~ Experience in multimedia content creation (podcasts, videos) is highly desirable.
~ Substantial grounding in mining and/or business journalism, with a proactive approach to staying informed about industry trends and developments.
~ Passion for the industry and a commitment to delivering high-quality journalism.
