Basic Function
Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company, located in Mississauga, Ontario is seeking a full-time Research Technologist. Reporting to the Product Development Manager, the Research Technologist will provide laboratory support for lubricant product research and development.
Job Duties
Lubricant product development laboratory support
Assist in formulation development
Blending of prototype product samples including both small scale and large scale (pilot blending plant) blends
Execute physical testing of samples and coordinate testing with external laboratories
Develop, implement and maintain test methods for use in lubricant product development, problem solving and customer assistance
Display good laboratory bench techniques and show initiative in carrying out tasks
Document and maintain records of all blends and test results
Maintain and organize laboratory including additive inventory.
Work collaboratively with product specialists, technicians and technologists
Provide product issue resolution support and collaborate within the organization to solve problems
Adhere to all safety, quality (ISO 9001, ISO/TS and environmental (ISO procedures in the laboratory, document and maintain records
Execute other assigned research and development tasks
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
Experience in a chemical or petroleum product laboratory environment
Experience in implementation and testing requirements of ASTM International standardized test methods for lubricants and related products
Experience in method development, validation and quality system documentation
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting experience in FTIR, HPLC and GC-MS is preferred
Industry experience in Analytical Chemistry and Analytical Instrumentations
Experience in implementation and testing requirements of American Standard Test Method (ASTM)
Experience in method development and validation
Previous experience in Lubricants products analysis
Education Level
~ Bachelor of Science degree or Diploma in Chemical or Chemical Engineering Technology
Required Skills
Demonstrate knowledge and capability in lubricant formulation development, sample blending and testing
Excellent laboratory bench technique and ability to handle multiple tasks in parallel
Excellent computer skills will be put to use preparing data for analysis and building and maintaining spreadsheets and reports
Ability to work well within a team and independently is critical to your success
Demonstrate solid written and verbal communication skills
Self-starter, willing to take the initiative on new tasks and projects
Work Conditions
~ Primarily work in a laboratory environment with occasional work in a pilot blending plant environment
Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., perceiving color differences. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
