Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Academic and Continuing Education, the Director will develop and implement innovative strategic alliances and growth opportunities, across Canada and globally, to help fulfill the expanded mandate entrusted to the Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) portfolio by Algoma University. The Director will have the opportunity to bring their strengths in creativity, innovation, and partnership building with international and national organizations, universities and foundations to this critical and compelling role and boost the national and global stature of the Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) portfolio by forging business viable alliances with select organizations in both the private and public sectors. In fulfilling this role, the Director shall work in close collaboration with the existing PACE team, to lead and execute new partnerships and international operations of the PACE portfolio. The Director will oversee all the international development work and establish partnerships locally and abroad as needed.
The candidate must have exemplary communication, problem-solving, team-building, and project management skills. The Director will be required to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously, establish priorities, work independently, use good judgment, and be comfortable with decision-making focused on the smooth partnerships and international expansion operations of PACE. The Director must be comfortable to work with emerging strategies, which may lead to changing direction and priorities in response to market demand. Partnerships, Operations and Development Management (70%)
Demonstrate individual and collective responsibility for the planning, monitoring, and implementation of a Partnerships, Development and Innovation Plan, and commit to achieving the objectives and KPI’s in the plan on a qualitative and quantitative basis.
Develop objectives, goals, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), in consultation with the AVP-ACE, the Director, Professional & Continuing Education (PACE), and the delivery service provider to ensure efficient, collaborative, and effective partnerships for the national and global PACE operations.
Identify target international markets for expansion.
Evaluate regulatory requirements and cultural factors affecting educational offerings.
Establish partnerships with educational institutions, government agencies, or corporate entities in target regions.
Facilitate the customization of the course content to suit the needs and preferences of international learners.
Facilitate the adoption of instructional materials to accommodate language, cultural, and educational differences.
Ensure compliance with local regulations and standards for educational content.
Facilitate the creation of marketing materials in multiple languages and formats.
Utilize digital marketing channels, such as social media, email campaigns, and search engine optimization, to reach target audiences.
Ensure that international educational programs meet quality standards and learning outcomes.
Provide training to instructors and staff on international operations procedures, cultural sensitivity, and cross-cultural communication.
Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and promotes professional growth.
Conduct regular evaluations of international operations to identify areas for improvement.
Stay abreast of developments in the field of continuing education and international education to adapt strategies and practices accordingly.
Develop, monitor and implement PACE policies and procedures, as required.
Maintain excellent working relationships with relevant units within PACE, the university, domestic and international partners, as appropriate.
Lead innovation action teams with a shared goal for creativity, adaptability, resilience, and tolerance to risk adversity, to put forward initiatives that will lead to business growth and creatively meet client needs.
Help or serve others to meet their needs. Respond expeditiously to developments under the portfolio and communicate appropriate information to the AVP-ACE, Director of PACE, Senior Executive and staff within appropriate timelines.
Represent PACE at events, in relation to partnerships, International Operations and Development, Innovation, and all other related matters.
Maintain currency with developments and changes in the discipline (e.g. partnerships, international operations and development) across campuses and across Canadian, or international institutions.
Maintain an accurate and effective record management system.
Financial, Budgetary and Risk Management (25%)
Develop and align budgets for international operations and monitor expenses.
Establish pricing strategies for courses based on market demand and cost analysis.
Track revenue and financial performance metrics to assess the profitability of international programs.
Manage the partnerships and International Operations and Development budget strategically and transparently to advance the mission of the portfolio
Ensure budgetary resources are managed fairly, efficiently, and sustainably, with relevant accountability mechanisms in place facilitating start-up support.
Craft short, medium, and long-term innovation goals for revenue growth.
In close collaboration with the University’s External Relations Office and with the Alumni Relations Office, identify and spearhead sponsorship and fundraising opportunities in support of PACE portfolio’s growth and sustainability.
Identify potential risks and challenges associated with international operations, such as political instability, currency fluctuations, or legal issues.
Develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies to address risks and minimize disruptions to operations.
Obtain appropriate insurance coverage for international activities, such as travel insurance or liability insurance.
Other duties, as assigned by the Associate Vice President, Academic and Continuing Education.

Requirement to manage simultaneous deadlines. Masters in Business Administration or a related field, 8+ years of management and leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
~In-depth knowledge of university management practices and structures.
~ Excellent communication skills in both official languages.
~ Experience in a leadership position with significant managerial accountability for partnership, international operation and development programs.
~ Team building, consultative leadership, and conflict management experience are preferred.
~ Proven capacity to connect and liaise with senior administrators across multiple sites, and handling matters of a complex and sensitive nature.
