TITLE: Director of Student Life (1-year replacement)

REPORT TO: Head of School

STATUS: Full-Time, Temporary

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Student Life is responsible for overseeing a variety of student activities and leadership opportunities offered at the school. The current roles and responsibilities of the Director of Student Life revolve around the non-academic life of the school. The main objective of centralizing the numerous aspects of student life is to ensure consistency and organization. The priority of the Director of Student Life is to provide meaningful and mission-appropriate leadership opportunities and activities to a diverse population of our student body. The Director of Student Life is the central hub for all of the student activities, volunteering initiatives, school wide social action initiatives and co-curricular activities offered in the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership to create and oversee student programming, including grade-level retreats, clubs, activities, homeroom programs, and student leadership opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the School community to implement forms of discipline to promote justice, healing, and learning in ways that are guided by the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to discuss and plan events in the school
  • Plan and manage the budget for Student Life activities
  • Responsible for daily students’ operations; informally supervise the students, make announcements, and help students with their inquiries, concerns and problems
  • Oversee the enforcement of school uniform
  • Manage the Co-Curricular program; sign-up/assignment of co-curriculars, as well as the addition, elimination or modification of the co-curriculars, monitor student involvement, adjacent report card and collecting data from faculty to add to adjacent report card
  • Coordinate student-led clubs, committees & events; Girls for the Cure, Grad Committee, DASHABUSTADD, etc.
  • Coordinate community service/volunteering opportunities
  • Coordinate school wide events and activities; Sec V lunch out, Grad Ring organization and Grad Ring Ceremony, Black History Month, Graduation Ceremony (convocation) and Prom
  • Responsible for the Prefect Advisor program; plan, coordinate and oversee meetings, events, and activities, CAIS Junior & Senior Leadership Conferences
  • Manage daily student operations outside of academics; school calendar, events and activities, assemblies
  • Integrate new domestic and international students in collaboration with Director of Enrolment Management.
  • Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

§ Bachelor of Education combined with subject-related Bachelor’s degree and/or Masters of Arts in Teaching & Learning (MATL)

§ Quebec teaching licence (brevet) or equivalent

§ Minimum of three years’ experience in a secondary school, preferably all-girls

§ Experience in planning and implementing student life activities

§ Proficiency with Google Suite for Education

§ Bilingualism (asset)

§ Maintains high professional standards for integrity, tactfulness, discretion, fairness, and confidentiality

§ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)

§ Effective facilitator in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations

§ Ability to seek input from multiple sources to inform decision-making, and collaborate with faculty and Leadership to plan and implement events and activities to enhance the quality of student life

§ Ability to balance the needs of multiple constituencies

§ Positive attitude, flexible approach, solution-focused

APERÇU DU POSTE :

Le/la directeur(trice) des services aux élèves est chargé de gérer une variété d'activités étudiantes et d'opportunités de leadership offertes à l'école. Les rôles et responsabilités actuels du directeur(trice) des services aux élèves tournent autour de la vie non académique de l'école. L'objectif principal de la centralisation des nombreux aspects de la vie étudiante est d'assurer la cohérence et l'organisation. La priorité du directeur(trice) des services aux élèves est d'offrir des opportunités et des activités de leadership significatives et adaptées à la mission à une population diversifiée de notre corps étudiant. Le/la directeur(trice) des services aux élèves est la plaque tournante de toutes les activités étudiantes, des initiatives de bénévolat, des initiatives d'action sociale à l'échelle de l'école et des activités parascolaires proposées dans l'école.

RESPONSABILITÉS PRINCIPALES :

§ Assurer le leadership pour créer et superviser les programmes pour les élèves, y compris les retraites de niveau scolaire, les clubs, les activités, et les opportunités de leadership pour les élèves

§ Travailler en collaboration avec la communauté scolaire pour mettre en œuvre des formes de discipline afin de promouvoir la justice, la guérison et l’apprentissage d’une manière guidée par les objectifs et les critères du Sacré-Cœur

§ Collaborer avec l’équipe de direction pour discuter et planifier des événements dans l’école

§ Planifier le budget de la vie étudiante

§ Responsable des activités quotidiennes des étudiants ; supervise les étudiants de manière informelle, fait des annonces et aide les étudiants à répondre à leurs questions, préoccupations et problèmes

§ Superviser l'application de l'uniforme de l'école

§ Gérer le programme d'activités parascolaires ; inscription/affectation des activités parascolaires, ainsi que l'ajout, l'élimination ou la modification des activités parascolaires proposées chaque année, contrôler l'implication des élèves, le bulletin scolaire adjacent et la collecte de données auprès de la faculté pour les ajouter au bulletin scolaire adjacent

§ Coordonner les clubs, comités et événements dirigés par les élèves : Girls for the Cure, comité de la danse, comité des diplômés, DASHABUSTADD, Sec. V Entertainment

§ Coordonner les événements et les activités à l'échelle de l'école : déjeuner du Sec. V, organisation et cérémonie de remise des bagues de fin d'études, Mois de l'histoire des Noirs, cérémonie de remise des diplômes (convocation) et bal de fin d'études

§ Responsable du programme du préfet conseiller ; planifier, coordonner et superviser les réunions, les événements et les activités

§ Diriger des programmes à tous les niveaux ; conférences de leadership junior et senior de CAIS

§ Gérer les activités quotidiennes des étudiants en dehors des cours : calendrier scolaire, événements et activités, assemblées, présentations, services de bibliothèque, messe à l'école

§ Intégrer les nouveaux étudiants nationaux et internationaux en collaboration avec la directrice de la gestion des inscriptions

§ Effectuer d'autres tâches en fonction des besoins

FORMATION, EXPÉRIENCE ET COMPÉTENCES

§ Baccalauréat en sciences de l'éducation combiné à une formation spécialisée et/ou à une maîtrise en enseignement et apprentissage

§ Brevet d’enseignement ou équivalent

§ Minimum de trois ans d'expérience dans une école secondaire, de préférence pour les filles

§ Expérience en planification et mise en œuvre d'activités liées à la vie étudiante

§ Maîtrise de Google Suite pour Éducation

§ Bilinguisme (atout)

§ Maintenir des normes professionnelles élevées en matière d’intégrité, de tact, de discrétion, d’équité et de confidentialité

§ Excellentes qualités relationnelles et de communication (tant à l’oral qu’à l’écrit)

§ Animateur efficace dans les grands groupes, les petits groupes et les situations individuelles

§ Capacité d’obtenir des commentaires de sources multiples pour éclairer la prise de décisions, et de collaborer avec le corps professoral et le leadership pour planifier et mettre en œuvre des événements et des activités pour améliorer la qualité de vie des étudiants

§ Capacité d’équilibrer les besoins de plusieurs groupes

§ Attitude positive, approche flexible, axée sur les solutions
