ANHBC is the legal entity and umbrella organization made up of eight neighbourhood houses, an outdoor camp and central services. Kitsilano Neighbourhood House (KNH) serves communities across Vancouver’s west side, providing a broad range of programs, services, and support developed to meet the needs and dreams of the community. We are community builders and place makers, connecting people, ideas, and opportunities.

About You
Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, effective team members for the position of Community Programmer as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program. The successful candidate is community-minded youth under the age of 30 who is passionate about working with all members of the community in a diverse, multi-cultural, and energetic environment.

About the Position
The Community Program – Summer Jobs will assist the Community team in contributing to the development and delivery of community programming and events. The role will be a part of a dedicated, community-focused team. Responsibilities include:
• Provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all community members
• Support individuals in accessing social, economic, recreational, and educational services and resources in the community
• Represent Kitsilano Neighbourhood House in community outreach initiatives and events
• Engage and encourage a diverse group of community members including seniors, youth, children and families to participate in programming
• Research, assess, create and develop programs/recommendations addressing the community needs
• Write program reports, collect statistics, and keep other program related documentation in order. And track programs’ expenses and income
• Engage, liaise and maintain partnerships with community agencies and other service providers
• Actively participates in committee/advocacy groups/surveys
• Encourage, support and supervise volunteers / contractors with program facilitation
• Participates and assist in organizational events; attends all staff meetings and trainings

Skills & Qualifications
• Educational experience in community social services, social work, community development, with one year experience in similar roles, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or practicum placements
• Understanding of community issues including mental health challenges, and how to work with barriers faced by community members
• Proven ability to work independently, conduct outreach, lead and facilitate groups, supervise volunteers, organize and manage projects, and develop community partnerships
• Excellent organizational, administrative, listening, written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills

• Knowledge of asset-based community development principles and/or experience working from a strength-based model of service delivery
• Great team player, with effective interpersonal skills and the ability to take initiative & adapt/change priorities according to changing situations and to set strong personal boundaries
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)
• Clean Criminal Record check, First Aid and Foodafe Level 1 (valid or willingness to obtain)
• Attitudes and values which are compatible with the goals and philosophies of Kitsilano Neighbourhood House
• As per the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program, must be under 30 years of age and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred

Hours & Location
35 hours per week, for a fixed short-term (8 week) position, with a start date of June 10, 2024
• Ability to work flexible hours – may require evening and weekend work
• Ability to work outdoors on occasion
• This position requires in-person presence at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House and other KNH or community sites

Working Conditions
The candidate should be in good physical health to meet the demands of the position, which may include walking, some lifting and moving supplies, and occasional setting up of tables and chairs

Salary & Benefits
$21.36 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay included on each pay cheque
