CJAM is a nonprofit campus-based community radio station. We provide music and information programming not offered by mainstream commercial media in the Windsor/Detroit area . We serve people and groups within the community who are underrepresented or maligned by mainstream media by allowing them a forum to express their views.

Job Description

The Ethnocultural Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for connecting with various not-for-profit organizations and/or community organizations in Windsor who are visible minorities.

The goal of this position is to recruit members from these communities and encourage partnerships and new spoken-word programming with these individuals / organizations. Preferably in their native language so CJAM can better serve local communities who have a language barrier, such as seniors and newcomers.

These prospective new volunteers would provide messages from and for their respective cultural communities. It’s the role of the Ethnocultural Engagement Coordinator to help get them involved at CJAM

Responsibilities:

– Doing research about the prospective cultural communities before outreach.

– Outreach by email, phone, and/or in-person with members of the BIPOC, other visible minorities in Windsor, and members of official language minority communities (French language communities outside of Quebec). The goal is to foster continuity, quality, and relevance in programming and potential volunteers.

– Present orientation sessions promoting CJAM at cultural community centers, whether it be in-person and/or virtually.

– Present orientation sessions at CJAM with the interested cultural prospective volunteer(s).

– Attending cultural events in Windsor; representing CJAM and promoting our services in this manner.

– Assisting the prospective volunteers by showing them how to use CJAM’s equipment and digital audio workstation.

Desired Qualifications:

– Excellent oral and written communication skills.

– Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.

– Shown interest, and experience in, community building.

– Broadcast and or, journalistic experience an asset.

– Strong interpersonal skills; willing to put themselves out there.

– Ability to adapt to changing deadlines, working with new tools ( eg. digital audio editing software, studio recording equipment).

This role is full-time, and pays $17.30 per hour, 35 hours per week, for eight weeks.

2. Concert and Workshop Coordinator, Canada Summer Jobs

CJAM is looking for a Concert and Workshop Coordinator You will work with CJAM staff to create fun, engaging live music and/or storytelling events for the greater Windsor community. The coordinator will plan, organize and deliver monthly community events throughout the summer. This opportunity aims to provide the successful candidate a great opening for future arts management and music event coordinator roles.

Responsible for:

– Planning, organizing and delivering monthly community events throughout the summer.

– Promoting events on CJAM’s social media channels.

– Assisting, and sometimes taking the lead, in coordinating CJAM volunteers to help out with CJAM events.

– Working in collaboration with venues to provide all ages events to the public (e.g. Windsor Public Library branches, city community centers, ethnocultural community centers, non for profit art galleries).

– Provide monthly workshops to maintain volunteers’ engagement with the station to foster greater community connection within the station.

Desired Qualifications:

– Innovative and creative regarding creating unique events that will benefit CJAM and the greater community at large.

– Collaborative skills by working with musicians, storytellers, CJAM staff, volunteers, venue owners / staff, and the public.

– Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

– Utilizing digital technology to use social media strategically and with purpose.

– Problem-solving skills as event planning organically raises issues, and taking courses of action to resolve issues.
