Overall Purpose:
Build Nova Scotia is hiring a Marine Coordinator located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This critical position will coordinate Build Nova Scotia's marine operations and business lines in the Halifax Harbour. The Marine Coordinator will supervise a seasonal marine team and collaborate and support other Halifax-based operations team members. Periodically, this position will be required to support organizational requirements on other Build Nova Scotia properties (i.e., Lunenburg).
Key Responsibilities:
Marina Operations:
· Oversee day-to-day operations at the Halifax Waterfront Marina
· Coordinate day-to-day marine services and logistics for the Halifax Waterfront Marina, including vessel and event bookings, customer engagement, collection of berthage fees, contract delivery, and services deployment
· Assist the Hiring Manager's in the process of hiring a seasonal team of Marina Attendants
· Provide training, scheduling and regular supervision to the seasonal team of Marina Attendants
· Ensure public, tenant, and staff safety is always top of mind
· Address and resolve customer complaints effectively
· Support seasonal staff by providing clear training and assisting with marine bookings, inquiries, and providing after hours service as needed
· Manage relationships and interface with visiting vessels
· Provide operational support to a variety of marine business tenants
· Support marine events on Build Nova Scotia properties, ranging from assisting small local events, such as the Boxing Rock Cup, to executing large international events such as Tall Ships Festivals or Sail GP
· Support the Marine Facility Security Programs for the Halifax Waterfront Marina
· Participate in the Occupational Health and Safety Program development and implementation
· Support the Blue Flag program and its re-certification processes
· Support the deployment and removal of floating docks, including rapid storm and hurricane emergency preparedness and response
General Duties:
· Assist with procurement activities - coordinate contractor activities as required
· Support invoicing and billing procedures
· Support marine repairs and maintenance activities as required
· Provide project, operations, and event updates as needed
· Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:
· Completion of High School or equivalent. Additional education or experience related to marina operations is highly desired
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
· Must be proficient with Apple products and their software as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat. Must be able to produce professional documents for communication and distribution
· Experience working in a marine environment an asset
· Small Craft Operators card is an asset
· Radio Operators Certificate - Maritime (ROC-M) is an asset
· Experience operating small to medium watercrafts is an asset
· Experience with general marine maintenance and repair is an asset
· Experience handling cash, Visa and debit transactions an asset
· Valid Class 5 Driver's License
· Valid Standard First Aid and WHMIS Certificates are an asset
· Position will include extensive walking as well as physical labour both indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions
· A passion for the waterfront and marine life is essential
Working Conditions:
This position is based in Halifax but requires periodic travel to other Build Nova Scotia owned properties. The working conditions are a mix of office and marine environments with moderate physical effort required. Significant physical effort is required periodically. Physical work includes some exposure to austere environmental conditions including noise, dust, wet weather, fumes, and extreme temperatures. Work volume is high with ongoing pressures from deadlines, requirements for accuracy, conflicting, and overlapping demands. Requires evening and weekend work.
