The shíshálh Nation is currently accepting applications for a Human Resources Director. Under the general supervision of the CAO, you will be responsible for providing Human Resources support to the shíshálh Nation (“Nation”) as a whole. The position will support the Nation’s strategic goals to help drive the design, planning and implementation of these programs and policies while ensuring compliance with all relevant government legislation. The HR Director will be accountable for establishing and instituting policies and processes for the Nation to ensure that the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of human resources plans and programs are realized. One of the primary purposes of the position is to ensure employee relations remain at high levels. 

The Candidate:

  • Responsible for all human resources activities, such as employment, compensation, benefits, and training.
  • Advise management and staff on all HR and related policies related to Human Resources, Human Rights, Labour Law and/or other relevant legislation.
  • Investigate all complaints of discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, grievances, acts of violence and workplace disagreements.
  • Organize professional development and training opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a human resources system that meets management information needs.
  • Investigate accidents and workplace incidents and documentation of associated events by reporting all necessary information to appropriate governing bodies.
  • Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and skillset as requested and needed.

Qualifications: 

  • Chartered Professional Human Resources (CPHR) or ability to achieve CPHR designation.
  • Solid Business acumen, combined with the ability to apply practical and effective HR solutions.
  • Extensive experience with managing department budgets.
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive, all-round business experience with a proven track record of achievement and success in the Human Resources field.
  • At least 5 years of management experience.
  • Ab lity to effectively respond to and interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Relevant legislation and regulations, including knowledge of Employment Standards, Human Rights, Accessibility and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of Human Resources activities, including health & safety, recruitment, orientation, investigation processes and employee relations; excellent computer skills.
  • Present self professionally and ethically; effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a valid Driver’s License.
  • A wage of 39.00 – 53.00 per hour at 37.5 hours/week.
