The Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) is seeking a Multimedia Specialist to bolster our digital content creation efforts, specifically focusing on Alberta's biodiversity and land cover monitoring. The ideal candidate would have formal communications training or experience, and demonstrate a keen interest and knowledge in the fields of biology and/or remote sensing. This position will play an important role in advancing our science communication and reporting efforts.

Note: This position is a Canada Summer Jobs position partially funded through Service Canada. There are specific eligibility requirements for this position that are outlined below.

Responsibilities:

Develop and produce engaging digital content for release on various social media platforms and websites.

Create a variety of media, including text, photography, and predominantly video content, aimed at fostering engagement and knowledge sharing.

Ensure all content is factually accurate and aligns with the mission, vision, operating principles, and values of the ABMI.

Capture and edit footage of field, laboratory, and reporting work for use in digital content.

Capture and monitor engagement metrics to assess the impact of the content.

Collaborate with the Communications and Engagement team to gain approval for content and assist in uploading and monitoring.

Support additional external communication activities, as required (e.g., digital asset management, drafting blog posts, and newsletter content).

 

Qualifications include: 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience developing digital video and print content for web or social media.

Video editing experience.

Experience in using the following social platforms; Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter (X), and associated scheduling platforms (e.g. Hootsuite).

Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, including the ability to work independently or within project teams of various sizes.

Ability to work long days outdoors in inclement weather and in challenging conditions to capture elements of our fieldwork.

Experience with, or willingness to learn, visual design platforms (e.g. Canva).

Courses in Communication and Marketing are desirable.

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Position: Full time (35 - 40 hrs per week)
Term: 4 months, with potential for extension
Salary: $20-25/hr
