GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Aquatic Monitoring Technician reports to the Watershed Services Specialist and is responsible for assisting with the organization and delivery, collecting and compiling of water resources and fisheries data throughout the Lower Trent Conservation Watershed. This position is responsible for the collection of data related to the Watershed Health Assessment and Brook Trout Monitoring Initiative. This project includes landowner contact, field work, data management, digital and hard copy file management, grant reporting and grant writing.

KEY DUTIES:
1. Provide high quality service to meet LTC, municipal, partner, and public expectations.

2. Conduct fieldwork activities which include:

· Installation of underwater video equipment for collection of fisheries information.

· Operation of various types of monitoring equipment including video equipment; GPS units; water quality instruments (e.g., turbidity meter, multi-parameter probe); water level, flow and temperature loggers/meters.

· Maintenance of sampling instruments and equipment (calibration, storage, minor repairs).

3. Conduct underwater video analysis to identify fish species of interest and create event logs.

4. Collect, manage, and analyze data; ensuring records are complete.

5. Contribute to environmental monitoring reports related to grants and data/results summaries.

6. Contact landowners for property access, explanation of project goals and program outreach.

7. Administration of community surveys for the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan (BQRAP) to identify fishing habits of anglers and fish consumption information.

8. Manage and assist with maintenance of the hard copy and digital filing system.

9. Adhere with all LTC policies and procedures.

10. Undertake other related duties as required, and as assigned, by the supervisor or CAO.

QUALIFICATIONS:
– Successful completion of post-secondary education with experience in Environmental Sciences, Ecosystem Management, Fish and Wildlife, Biology, or a related field.
– Familiarity with native species, including fish, vegetation, and aquatic invertebrate species identification an asset.
– Fieldwork experience including working in and around wadeable streams.
– Experience dealing with landowners and the public.
– Must be able to work outdoors and in potentially adverse environmental (weather and uneven terrain) conditions.
– Proficient knowledge and use of ArcGIS applications and Microsoft Office Suite tools with experience with database management and data entry.
– Excellent organizational skills to set priorities and react to changing program needs.
– Ability to work with minimal supervision when required.
– Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
– Valid driver’s license within the Province of Ontario and held in good standing.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
– This position is pending funding approval
– 40 hours/week
– Hourly rate: $16.55/hour
– approximately 6 month duration
